Long tail tits in my garden.
On my last photo i said 'i love squirrels' this time i'll resist the temptation!
These little guys come every day at about the same time, at one point there were about seven of them happily sharing the feeder with blue tits but then the magpie came and they weren't going to hang around with him there.

UK birds are hard to photograph as they are so small! I'm always trying (and usually failing!) to catch them off the feeders which makes for a nicer photo.
Try to single out an individual rather than a group shot. I'm not really sure where my eye should be looking in this composition.

I see what you mean about not knowing where to look, there is too much going on in the shot and the quality isn't great either. In hindsight maybe i shouldn't have cropped it so much, i tried to get rid of the feeders etc.. but it didn't have the effect i thought it would have. It's strange how when i look at the shot now it seems totally different to what i thought it looked like when i posted it, maybe it was last nights wine playing tricks with my early morning eyes :D (off work at the moment so 11.52am is still early morning at the moment)
Long Tail Tits are so tiny, less than the length of your thumb without their tail and they move like the wind, just when you've focused the shot they bugger off elsewhere, little blighters! Those were about 50ft away and I was fully zoomed in at 560mm - believe me the lens/camera combination gets heavy after not too long - so the quality isn't great I simply couldn't hold it still enough and breathe at the same time.
I do have some shots of one on its own, i'll post one them next time.

Thanks for the feedback it definitely made me think more about the composition of the shot and what I am trying to achieve.
Cheers

Try a monopod.
Also if the birds are in your garden watch them and try to anticipate their moves. For example do they launch from a particular branch to get to the feeder? I know our sparrows do. Might make it easier.

Thanks, AFB! Haven't gotten out to shoot today, as have been busy with other things, including processing yesterday's images. The RX10 M6 works fine for closeups, but definitely it is not exactly designed for 1:1 macro work!
All cameras and lenses have there strengths and weaknesses. But liking what I'm seeing so far.

After yesterday mornings handheld effort with water droplets, I got some time to get the tripod and the macro rails out, to play with some more water droplets, but had to settle for them being on blades of grass this time round.

Canon 600D, Tamron 90mm f/2.8, 65mm extension tubes, Marco-rail, 2 second delay

The setup at work.

Macro rails. Those would be super handy if I ever used my tripod.

You obviously have the blessing of image stabilisation in your macro lens then? I didn't think of that when purchasing it, which kinda makes tripod use a necessity for the fine details. Eventually I'll switch this lens out for the same model with the image stabilisation built in.

What's the difference between macro rails and just moving your focus point?

Too much building work around the house and garden (new conservatory), plus a bit of feeling down and losing the will to push myself out with the camera.

Some lobelia from yesterday...
