This is peaceful. I really like the lighting.
Must have been tough shooting to get the exposure right. (and some pp, I guess?)
Cheers oblomow. Not too bad actually - aperture priority at f11 with centre-weighted exposure (not bothered about any overexposure in the sky) and a stop of exposure compensation reduction. Lens fitted with CPL to help intensify colours. Came out about 20sec exposure which gave long enough time for the cascade to show. Hardest part was not slipping on slimy rocks with my wellies.

PP was essentially a crop to get rid of the sides (very under-exposed and not very interesting) and a very heavy vignette to really bring the viewers attention right in. With this sort of underexposed image, colours can be at their best but obviously at the expense of potential loss of shadow detail. I was more interested in getting the atmosphere than shadow detail. Obviously this sort of dynamic range compromise is only a feature of Canon bodies ;-)

Thank you, here's the light setup. :)

There is also a 22" beauty dish used on this shot, out of frame camera left.

You should be giving tutorials!
I've spent the day removing images I once thought were decent from my facebook and website. My confidence has taken a smashing today and I'm tired from the amount of cringing I've been doing.

that's quite effective already!
But then there's sweet talkers like this ^ :p

I recently deleted a load of photos I'd kept thinking they were keepers. They were shocking!
Don't have Facebook or a website though so all good. Just good old Flickr and nobody goes on there.

Since Flickr marked me as 'moderate' no one visits my account either, I just use it for full sized jpeg backup. You're not missing anything by not having a Facebook page or website. They're a pain in the arse.

What I've found myself doing on Flickr a couple of times though is re-editing shots and swapping them out at a later date. That's a nice feature to have.

Call it cliche, but isn't the point to look back to see where we've come from? Without which, we wouldn't know that there has been improvement!;)

I hoped to post this yesterday, as a nice "kick-off" to summer. Summer really begins in July, for me. It's my birthday month, so there might be a little bias there. While in Carlsbad last weekend, I was sitting with some family at a public fire pit, and another small group walked up to roast thier 'mellows for s'mores. I couldn't help but think what a sight it was (as simple as it may be), so went ahead and snapped a few. One of the jpg images that came out (I shoot raw + jpg) seemed so nice, just the way it was. Anyway, here it is - and by all means, suggestions or tips are appreciated.

Funny how any sort of creative endeavor can do that to you. I did quite a few drawings earlier in life, and some of my family members had asked for some of them to hang up. I usually don’t like to look at them when I visit, because I start seeing how they could have been better! I have one of my own architectural drawings on my wall at home that my grandparents had until they passed away. I still see all my mistakes in it, but it now makes me think of them more than anything, so on the wall it goes.
