They seem to gather on tall dead trees where I am.
Yes, and often they can be the reason the tall trees are challenged, if not dead, if they’re long term residents. As fun as they are, their droppings have been suggested to be harmful to trees in large sustained doses. Dunno if that’s really true, but that’s one reason people give for trying to chase them off.

Wolf's bane, Arnica montana, Storsjön, Viskafors, Sweden, 15 July. ”Slåttergubbe” in Swedish. There is a saying in Bondepraktikan (Old Farmer's Almanac):

”När slåttergubben kommer med piga och dräng, då är tid för bonden att bärga sin äng”

Loosely translated: ”When the farmer comes with maid and hand, it is time to harvest the grass”

The maid and hand refers to the two smaller flower buds next to the flower itself:

Arnica - know it well for pain relief.

Nice Skipper butterfly. I've often seen them swarm around butterfly bushes. But they're still not as common as the Cabbage Whites, Clouded Sulphurs and Tiger Swallowtails (along with the Monarchs in August-October!)
We get lots of skippers. The kids like to catch and release them. We do get the other varieties you mention, but not to the same degree as skippers!

I thought yesterday was the last of the wild roses but decided to include this one as well. It's sort of a wild rose. It's located along the river path behind a restaurant. It was planted by a Chinese family who owned the restaurant at the time. I recall they would always have roses on the tables when it was blooming. Then their teenaged daughter developed an illness that forced them to sell and move to Edmonton to be close to the medical center where she was being treated. I doubt that it has been watered since then and certainly never pruned or deadheaded, but somehow it seems to thrive.

Lumix ZS200 Camera. Slight under exposure and I did have to slightly reduce the saturation to keep the reds from blocking up.

Came across this 4 inch tarantula as I was coming in from putting out the horses yesterday am. As soon as he felt my presence, he stopped moving and slunked down with belly on the ground. I raced back to the house to get my camera and found him in the same place and position when I returned.

A couple of days ago I posted a photo which sparked a reply about street food, so I thought I'd add a couple photos in that theme. This photo is from Fukuoka, Japan, where chefs set up temporary food stalls called yatai every evening during the summer for a few hours. They use carts to bring in the walls, chairs, tables, etc. and set up the stalls. People come to the area, on an urban island overlooking the Naka River, for yakitori, ramen and other dishes. Plus drinking. Here's a chef getting his yatai stall set up for the evening.
