A beauty! Love old Jags. Wish it didn't have the reflection of that blue car on it, kind of spoils it IMHO.

Circular polarizer would have got rid of those at the time...

I agree about the reflections but that's the trouble with car park photos - I was lucky it was at the end of the row. Believe it or not,tThe photo was taken with a CP filter and that was about the minimum reflection achieved.

St. Francis de Asis , Rancho de Taos .
Ansel Adams photographed this place in the 1930's . I was in the area last week and decided to try to get the place from the same angle Ansel did .

Here's my inspiration : http://www.anseladams.com/about-the-photograph-saint-francis-church-ranchos-de-taos-new-mexico/

For some reason I find this image really quite compelling. I think it maybe could do with some more dramatic blacks if I had to be a critic (which I dont sorry), but I really like this.

It is an awfully nice Jag though from their glory days. Really nice even with the reflections. :)

Well if i's old Americana you're looking for...

Classic Americana

You are giving me palpitations with this classic metal you are all posting! oh my word there are some legendary rides appearing here!
[doublepost=1465766779][/doublepost]
Oh **** yeah. Is the dodge and burn too much?, have I put too much colour in the shadows?, should it be warmer or cooler?, does it look too 'fake'?.
Nearly every edit, nearly every time.

Without being a dick, I envy you guys using just Lightroom, Capture One or hehe...Aperture. I have to use Photoshop for most of my portraits, it's a half hour to an hour process and it can be a real chore knowing when to pull in the reigns as far as editing goes.

How much is too much?

It is only because I havent strayed too far into PS yet... I am sure I will torture myself then too..

and errr... you are doing fine! lol... on the whole apart for poor choice of footwear in some of them is really quite fabulous.

Shared something similar recently. Exploring taking pics of the kiddo at the grocery store. For the previous one, I used a 35mm lens wide open @ f/1.4. Today I used a 21mm lens shot wide open also (this time @ f/3.4).

Prefer the 21 to the 35. I think it adds to the matrix like endless aisle effect - like the scene where Neo and trinity are preparing for the big end fight and all the racks of rifles are panning past...

and it has the wee guy in it... way cute!

What are you blathering on about Ken? Ignored it because I was too busy enjoying your snail shot ;)

I will echo what The Bad Guy said both regarding editing in post and regarding ideas for this specific image. We all fret to one degree or another. Experiment and keep an open mind for different ways of doing what you've already done. I can see it in my head as more of a macro shot with the snail coming towards me, but that doesn't detract from your shot which I happen to like. Different ways of shooting the same subject can all yield interesting results. I vaguely remember you giving me similar advice in our private correspondences....

Aww man, I am not proud of myself... having a wobble again... think it is because I havent had any decent keepers for a while. Maybe that is it, I need my next hit of endorphins from looking at a picture of mine and thinking.... "nice"...

argh! Thanks for the compliment but I need to take a day and get some camera time. I am due surely...

I built a cabinet around an extractor fan in the kitchen yesterday and framed out a door under the stairs then replaced some down pipe guttering on the house so I have earned some shutter time.

I just like the nice 70s vibe but then get all twitchy that it is soft and the colour is off, then I see someone post one like it and think nice colours... nice retro feel... I tell you I am driving myself insane!

and yeah, I can give advice because I have these nut job moments.. :)

Thanks . I first saw the Ansel Adams version in a library book some years back and was fascinated by it also . Looks surreal , although it could be a shot of the back any one of a bunch of similar Spanish Mission churches in the area . They all seem to have same floor plan pretty much . Almost like they said to the missionary Fathers " Hey , by the way , we'd like you to build a church wherever you end up . To help you , here's a copy of the February 1602 edition of Popular Mechanics . Check out the article called 'Build your own church out of mud and straw"'.
I found the image to be a lot more of a challenge than it appears . They were re-mudding the exterior of the church at the time and had 2 cranes plus ladders , plus a bunch of orange cones around the site . Plus there's a parking lot behind the site with cars . Without sitting on someone's car , or in the traffic lane ,I couldn't get wide enough with my 24-105 . Had to use a 17-40 . At around 17 to 20 . Here's the original :

I originally was going to make the blacks darker as you suggested . Played around some in Silver Efex , but wasn't happy with the result . Either really forbidding looking or I lost the right side . So I ended up doing the B&W in Adobe Camera Raw , and then editing, cropping, cloning , and healing everything until I got something I could live with . Usually I spend maybe 5 minutes on an image , just minor adjustments for exposure , lens correction , and a bit of color tweaking to make it look good to my aging eyes . Probably spent a couple of hours exploring various permutations on this one , though .

If have probably just removed the cones whilst I was there, then put them back after I had finished!
Did that with some bins when photographing York Minster last year.

Too many people around , although it doesn't seem to be the case from looking at the picture . The cones weren't a problem …. content aware fill and a bit of cloning dealt with them nicely . It was the left hand crane and the ladder on the wall that gave me grief .

Just stick on a hard hat, hi-vis vest and start moving things. Nobody asks if you act with authority. :D

We would totally get arrested on a photo walk for moving stuff around! Golf rules IMHO - if it is dead and doesn't belong there, you can move it without foul (paraphrased).

I was in Jerome myself for a day a few weeks back - lots of photo opportunities if you could avoid the number of people! Obviously a favourite day-trip location from Phoenix. Good selection of eating places as a result!

Nice shot... and I love day trips to Jerome. I try to get up there at least once a year... and you are correct, sometimes the real challenge is avoiding the "tourists" when shooting... but sometimes, they can be part of the fun.

This is awesome! we got a pot from insectlore.co.uk containing 5 caterpillars. They spend a week going from barely visible to wee fat bloaters. They then climb up onto the lid of the pot and climb into their sleeping bags. We then transferred them into a basket thingmy and now today, we have 5 beautiful Painted Lady butterflies... but can I hell get a decent picture of them!!!
