Apple Fanboy beat me to it -- Yes, in B&W, CONTRAST is the key word. Makes the image and the image really stand out. Sometimes using high-key processing can do the trick, creating a different illusion from what the reality is, especially when doing an abstract:

Personally I usually push the contrast a bit more for B&W. Most software has some presets. See what works as a starting point.

Thanks a lot. I will apply this, thinking of some sort of constructions as motive. In bright sunlight and contrasty shadows. Well see in a day or two if I have ...take the time to go out for a stroll with the camera.

Trying a bit of B&W

Not an expert in any regards, so I'd like a few tips/feedback if possible.

Depends on your intentions. For me it is a little soft. Yes, more contrast. Deeper blacks. A little more punch to the image. Too much negative space on top, draws the eye there with nothing to see - tighter crop, or reposition the main element if possible - imho

Wow, thanks! Great tips! I'll think of that, certainly

@Dockland image - did a quick adjustment, hope you don't mind

Again, this is a Dockland image, I just did an adjustment.

I don't mind at all. But I don't think this is the right thread. Thank you for your input anyhow.

But, I don't like this crop. That ruined my whole intention with the image.
I'm totally pleased with the composition, or, in fact i'd like it to be/have even m o r e space on the top than the original image. But I was quite limited due to my fixed focal length and the distance unfortunately (I was shooting through a fence). But next time :)
