What an amazing series this has been -- thanks for sharing them.

Please don't stop.

In spite of my aversion to winter, this is my current desktop picture. You should do a calendar of these fabulous bird photos. This is the best I've seen.

Dale

You're doing good work.

Thank you all for the very kind words - they're much appreciated.

Dale, that's very high praise indeed, thank you. I know I share your aversion to winter but there are times when I'm so preoccupied by something else that I don't think about the cold. Well, there was one day at -25 C that made the cold impossible to ignore.

Thanks again to everyone,
Peter

Lots of great photos here in the last week, particularly these...

Lovely composition.

Amazing. Your series has just been outstanding! I really liked the one with the attitude on the post in the snow as well. I'm curious... How far away are you from these guys? What lens are you using? How much cropping are you doing?

Very creative shot!

Here's one from a recent trip to Singapore...

I only managed to shuffle around the fields at the back of my house for half an hour whilst walking the dog due to the spectacular hangover I have been sporting today as a result of "Steak Night" at my local pub (steaks a chips and a bottle of wine for two for £22. Such a bargain.....one bottle wasn't enough though ;) ). As a result all I managed to shoot was power lines as I'm surrounded by the buggers!

Taken handheld at nine o'clock in the morning with my 30 year old manual 400mm lens that has none of this image stabilisation malarky! ;)

I had to fire off the shot after I had exhaled fully, as I could see my heartbeat bouncing the image.

Not the most spectacular falls in the world, just the closest to where I live. I wanted to slow down the action, but with no ND filter and bright sunshine, this was never going to happen. Something else to add to the shopping list!

Comments always welcome!

If you had have closed down the aperture somewhat, you could have slowed the shutter speed considerably. Can you get to ISO 50 on the D7100? That could have slowed things considerably too. Some times, just a quarter of a second is enough for water and I reckon it may have been enough for this sort of falls.

I'm enjoying your growth and explorations, keep it up.

ISO 100 is as low as I can go. Thanks for the encouragement. So much learnt from when I started (a lot from you guys), but much more to learn!
Practise, practise, practise.

It's my birthday today and my fabulous wife made me these awesome bacon cakes for breakfast! They're the future people, get on board. Bread base, onions, egg, cheese and bacon. A-frickin-mazing!

So we ended up at the Orchid Show at the NY Botanical Garden in the Bronx last week . Always look forward to this ... it's a sign that winter is finally gone , plus an opportunity to hit the great restaurants on Arthur Av.
