I had my first girlfriends name - Jan - tattooed on my back. The relationship didnt last, but, luckily, girlfriends came in a convenient sequence that required the briefest of visits to the tattoo parlour. After Jan came Jane, then Janet, and Janette. The sequence faltered when I fell head over heels for an aromatherapist called Esmerelda, leaving me no option but to incorporate the earlier tattoo into a more elaborate design featuring the Sinking of the Belgrano...
