Another scene from down on the South coast which I will be revisiting for some long-exposures. I was really tempted to drop in another sky here, but it is what it is, call me lazy.

"Frankfort's Skyscraper" or popularly known locally as "The Tower." This was taken on Feb. 9th, and it's slated to be imploded this coming Sunday(March 11th). This 28 story building has been something of an intriguing mark on the local landscape since 1972.

Taken with a camera and lens older than the building :) . Hasselblad 500c(1960) with a 150mm Zeiss Sonnar(1962). I used Ilford Pan F 50 developed in home-made Rodinal 1:19. This was my first roll of Pan F, and it's something of an interesting film. I've been told that its latent image keeping is terrible. I developed it a day after shooting it, but despite being well in date the edge markings are faint. I'm also surprised at how pronounced the grain is for an ASA 50 film, although Rodinal is known for its sharpness at the expense of grain.

I'm terrible about keeping track of my film exposure data(thank goodness my F5 and F100 let me be lazy and do that for me) but this was an overcast day and I probably would have set it to EV 12 or 13. That means I likely would have been with the lens wide open at f/4 and 1/500 or 1/250(MF SLRs have enough mirror shock that I keep the shutter speeds as high as possible when hand holding).

I'm undecided.

The above photo really is from what is-IMO-one of the best vantage points of the building outside the "exclusion zone." It was about midway across a bridge over the Kentucky River, the opposite bank of which is the exclusion zone. I could possibly get a better view by moving more downstream(to the right of where that photo was taken) although the lay of the land is such that I'm not going to get a good photo unless I'm on a bridge.

This particular bridge is the easiest to access, but I suspect that it will be packed and finding a place to park will be a nightmare(although they can handle parking not too far away for the high school football games, and the field is in easy walking distance).

The best view is PROBABLY from the old US 127 bridge-which is now closed to road traffic-although I don't know how the pedestrian access is from the west side of the river. Actually, I'm not sure that it's TECHNICALLY accessible from the east side, but then the only barriers are designed to prevent auto traffic and it's not posted. I need to go down on Saturday and scope it all out.

Of course, if I REALLY wanted to get close there's always this option...but I don't want to spend that kind of money. I expect it will hit well into 5 figures.

I just gotta tell you that it was an exciting weekend for me and the missus. On Saturday we went to the grand unveiling and awards ceremony for Canada's Royal Ontario Museum Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017 contest and I took top spot and won the grand prize.

It's all very exciting to receive a very nice prize package that includes a trip to Ecuador and have the Polar Bear image below hanging in the museum for the next there weeks.

I also have to say thanks to @kenoh and award Ken an honourable mention for suggesting a tweak to this image to add a bit more detail around the bear's eye. Thank you Ken! :)

Cheers,
Peter

That's a wonderful image, I'm not surprised it won. Congratulations! I'm sure you'll have a great trip :)

B&W fitted this one best to my mind.

I agree. Very effective use of b&w and composition.

Where do you think I get all my gear from? :D

Cheers :)

Hugh

Haha! :D
