I understand, went through it with my Millie 12 days ago.
I'll bet there is another one out there waiting to be adopted / rescued.

There is a stray female cat with a black "tuxedo" coloring that has been coming by our backyard for well over a year. She used to run away as soon as the back door was opened, now she will come up and sniff my fingers and won't run too far away if I touch her.

My wife and I are hoping she will finally get socialized to the point that either we can rescue her or a local humane society can take her and find her a home. In the mean time, we did get her spayed - early on she came into the yard with 3 kittens trailing behind her. A local humane society took in the kittens, since they were young enough that we could get them used to being around people so they could get adopted.

My condolences for your kitty, was he a Ragdoll? I lost my Maine Coon a year ago, he couldn't pee, so took him immediately, turned out to be crystals in bladder which blocking his plumbing. We tried twice to clean them out, but lost the battle $3600 later. Only had him for about a year, wandered into my neighbors driveway. Doesn't take long to get really attached.

His favorite spot.

Never moved, nor did mate arrive with catch of the day. I will have to go back to see if any hatchlings.

My favorite wildlife adventure with a Starbucks next door. :D Really roughing it! It is downtown, 4th floor of a parking garage bringing me eyelevel with the nest on top of a utility pole across a 2 lane street. The garage is viewable behind/over the train on the "Tracks" photo submitted in last week's contest.

Is he a Russian Blue? Look like my Bear.
Zagato27, I just noticed something -- when I read that post initially I thought it said "Goodbye, Royce," and because of the recent photos of cats who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I assumed that this was another who has, and so put the "sad" response. Now that I see that the post actually says "Goodboy Royce," I realize that Royce may very well still be happy and well..... Apologies for the error! Changing my reaction from "sad" to "like".....

Nope, he's definitely still here. My eldest son started calling his dog, Hank...Goodboy Hank and he is a very good boy. Well, Royce is pretty good boy also, so we started calling him Goodboy Royce. He's a fairly good sized cat not quite a year old and he loves to sit on my lap where ever he can find me. He did take a wander for about 5 days and that was pretty tough as we had lost a previous cat, Zeb, doing the same thing but he returned. Zeb was an interesting cat. I walk our 2 Labs around the neighborhood and he would go with us. Can't tell you the number of times that cars stopped to tell me that a cat was following me. Some of the neighbors would be waiting outside for "us" to walk by. Maybe Goodboy Royce will fill in, who knows.

I also thought this cat looks like a Russian Blue. I meant to ask that question, but forgot.
Goodboy Royce is probably not a Russian Blue. His mother was a black feral cat that kept coming to our house. We eventually took her in and before we could get her fixed she rewarded us with 4 kittens (everyone in the family is now fixed). Of the four, 3 black and 1 grey (Goodboy Royce). Pretty sure we have seen his father, a rather large grey cat that was fairly battle scarred but haven't seen him recently. Even though GBR is grey with a rather short dense coat he has yellow eyes not green and he has a bit of black banding on his tail if you look closely. I believe in our history with critters we have had one "prue bred" and that was a yellow Lab, Emma. The rest of our critters have either sought us out or have come from adoptions. Prue breds or mutts and just cats, they all love you just the same.
