Can you do anything to increase the DoF and soften the highlight on top of the apple?

The 7D + the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. I am really pleased with this lens... equal in IQ as the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 in my opinion. Excellent IS and a great walk-around lens.

I'd have liked to have seen the boats coming from a bit further down in the corner as well as the top of the left-most boat not being cut off. Beautiful light and colors, the leading lines are just a bit high for me though.

Thanks Paul for an insightful comment. Actually, I agree with you-- great observation. In fact I almost didn't bother with this shot because of just that reason. It was at the very end of my shooting day and I didn't spend enough time on this scene because at the time I didn't really see the chance for my camera being able to pull it off without some kind of HDR...and I was shooting hand held. I wish I had framed the shot a little lower in the frame, just as you mentioned.
