I did yes. I took an aeriel the mermaid figurine and played with it. Will post a pic for a laugh. It is easier than i thought to get some semblance of the effect but as i had it on the bed, the bedspread shows up.

Need to try again with a bit more thought into placement of subject and speedlite.

Yes that lens is certainly looking fantastic

I bought a pack of black card from a craft shop that helps with that Ken. It's shiny on one side, which enables me to have nice reflections, and matte on the other. Useful as a background too.

I would have gone for detail in the clouds but that's just me. Very nice shot. good composition and use of color and contrast.

Dale

Cheers Dale, thanks for your comments. I personally love lots of cloud detail, especially in B&W.

Gorgeous! Lovely lighting. A little dark maybe?

Thanks MacRy, much appreciated. Did the post on my macbook air and I think you are right when seen on the iMac...I'd lowered the exposure a bit in post to richen it up but probably a bit too much. Cheers.

This was taken minutes before a tornado warning some of the strongest winds and rain I have ever seen came in. The tornado ended up not touching down but we had winds around 70mph

I think your watermark is a tad aggressive there fella. Kind of detracts from the photo and makes it look as though it's the subject.

That is fabulous. Love the rich dark colours

Is she missing Flo?

Nice composition. You always make them look like they are from adverts for chocolate.
