Sunrise behind the mountains. That tree in front ruined the shot.

Very nice. I wish my garden looked like that.

The same line of trees as before, from a different angle. The small one in between made it interesting. I assume they had to replant one.

I'd clone out the foolige on the top right. But agree the middle one adds a point of interest.

Seriously? We also have a rat that visits. Can you pop round?

We have rats in our garden too, i dont mind so long as they stick to the bottom of the garden and stay away from the house. It gives the lcal cats something to chase and they leave the birds alone. I did get one a few weeks back with a huge rat trap. I used a spade to finally to see him off, you would be surprised how resilient they are the little **&$*^%$@£^&$'s. Can i borrow a shotgun?

Bird posing for me.

Anyone know what type of bird this is? I would say a sparrow. Thanks!

I think this maybe a Mistle Thrush but i am not sure because his chest is more striped than mottled. Please let us know when/if you find out what it is.
Nice picture by the way, he stands out from the shrub/wood very well.

I couldn't get a worthwhile shot of the trams myself in my afternoon there- had to make do with a short trip on one. Nicely done.
Thanks anotherscotsman. I'm glad you got to take a ride on one...they're a lot of fun and a very charming part of San Francisco's history.
A beautiful print and frame worthy image. Well done Florian.

I don’t mind so much if they stay away but we had one in our attic a few months back and had to put some poison down to deal with it. I’m not a fan of using poison, I’d rather take them out with a shot to the head but that’s a bit tricky in the loft and I don’t want holes in my bedroom ceiling :)

Looking good. What are the laws like for operating one in your country? Here in the US, they put quite a few restrictions on them, because people ruin everything.

That is something that I was very mindful of, and stopped me getting a drone for a long time. NZ law says you must:
  • be able to see the aircraft with your own eyes
  • not fly your aircraft higher than 120 metres (400 feet) above ground level
  • have knowledge of airspace restrictions that apply in the area you want to operate
  • not fly closer than four kilometres from any aerodrome (unless certain conditions are met)
  • when flying in controlled airspace, obtain an air traffic control clearance issued by Airways
  • not fly in special use airspace without the permission of the controlling authority of the area (e.g. military operating areas or restricted areas)
  • have consent from anyone you want to fly above
  • have the consent of the property owner or person in charge of the area you are wanting to fly above
It is the last 2 that caused me most concern, but I have since found that the city council where I live grants permission to fly above most public spaces, beaches etc without needing to get a permit or special permission, and if I avoid flying above people and generally don't be a pest I should be fine. Of course I will have to check out the local rules if I ever want to fly outside of the local council area.

Those rules sound similar to the US, especially for commercial use. The "line of sight" rule and the maximum relative altitude are two of the bigger ones that everyday folks may not be aware of that get them into trouble with the government agencies. I'm not sure you need the consent rule here, but I'm not an owner/operator.

Fungus among us. I kinda blew this one with too much aperture, and there's only so much cropping one can do to fix insufficient depth of field! Still, one wouldn't expect such beauty and color from mere wood decay fungi.

Thanks everyone for the help. I will post another photo of this bird tomorrow, but I believe @Cheese&Apple is correct. It looks like a female Red Winged Blackbird. I googled different types of birds by description. Couldn't seem to find one that matched so because I get a lot of sparrows I put it out there. I get a lot of variety of other birds as well. Sometimes, I'll sit on my deck with camera in hand and wait for them.
