Thank you gent's! Peter, I haven't commented yet, but your latest landscape offerings have been drop dead gorgeous to behold. Wonderful renditions and most memorable keepsakes of what I'm sure was a magical trip.
Thanks very much Alex and yes, it was quite magical. It was an experience that was made even better because I was in the company of 3 other like-minded photographer friends from whom I learned a great deal.
Snakes are fine. I like snakes.
Noooooooo! I hate snakes. I'll make you a deal MacRy...you don't post snake shots and l won't post spider shots.

We were out on a Sunday morning to photograph cable cars as there was less traffic in downtown San Francisco. I wasn't getting a shot that interested me and was after a different look. So I took this shot with a 500mm at f/4 and was happy with the result.

You've got yourself a deal Peter. I'm so phobic that I find it hard to touch the screen on my iPad to scroll this forum :(
[doublepost=1526840176][/doublepost]Tonight's dog walk and more leaves. I liked the backlighting on this leaf.

It's the same for me and snakes. I know it's irrational but I can't help it. I can't tell you how I felt at the camps in Africa where they tell you not to wander off the beaten path or go anywhere without a flashlight at night...not because of the animals but because of snakes like Black Mambas and Spitting Cobras. They don't even have to be venomous - I'd rather face a hungry lion than a harmless Garter Snake.

For me it’s a little overexposed, especially on the right hand side. Might have benefitted from more depth of field as well to get the little critter all in focus as I feel the focus should be on its wings.
Agree. He didn't hang around for long, so I had to pull this back from the original overexposed RAW file. It was hand held, so my focus was hit and miss.

Sometimes they’re beyond recovery fella.

I was doing some gardening today (yeah I know! We’re both strangers to that concept) and came across a really vibrant red beetle. I’ve never seen one like it before - it was quite pretty.

Edit: Apparently it was a cardinal beetle

Hey I mowed the lawn! Looks cool. Did you get a picture? This time of year I keep my 200-500 on one body and the Macro on the other. That way, if I spot something in the garden, I can get some shots.
Paid off yesterday as a sparrowhawk came to visit. Not processed them yet.

I didn’t get a photo as I was busy mowing the lawn and pulling up armfuls of weeds so was pretty mucky. I had my phone on me and took a really crappy blurry shot of it to show Mrs MacRy. Not worth sharing here though.

I did feel a little bit smug during gardening duty, as my next door neighbours have a beautiful garden that they are tending to pretty much every day (they are retired) and they called over the fence to say they had a rat running around the top of theirs. Although I’ve just realised that it shows that even rats won’t come into my garden :)

I got my rifle and they no longer have a rat running around their garden so they are back to winning garden top trumps.

Seriously? We also have a rat that visits. Can you pop round?

The longer story to this is that last year I was trimming a small tree at the base of it. I worked on it for a good 10-15 minutes trying to thin it out. When I stood up, I discovered a huge paper wasp nest in it just above eye level, that was quite active. I quickly scurried away, and later that day our pest/insect guy came by so he helpfully smashed down the nest and sprayed it with something (probably in reverse order).

Near the end of summer, I discovered that the remaining wasps had relocated to a much higher tree in our back yard and built an even larger nest. By the end of fall I guess they had all migrated to where ever wasps go in the winter and the nest started to collapse.

Today was the first sunny day in a week and we had about 6 inches of rain the past week; I think the wind and rain finally decimated the last bits, and I found this and a few other pieces out by the kids' playset.

I couldn't get a worthwhile shot of the trams myself in my afternoon there- had to make do with a short trip on one. Nicely done.

Wasps are good; just like spiders and snakes. I had a paper wasps nest right outside my office window. Enjoy watching them. Then I had to instal a new outside water faucet and had to drill a 1 inch hole, into brick, about 4 feet below the nest. None of them even bothered me, I think they enjoyed watching me!

Zoomed-in on the original - a short story collection by Chekhov. No wonder I didn't remember...
Why do I always think of this whenever I hear the name Chekhov?
