Much better. As I recall there has always been a mystery as to how those rocks moved and left the trails. Think the last I heard was that it was due to precipitation (a rare occurrence in Death Valley), freezing creating an ice sheet beneath the rocks, then some intense heat causing a bit of an ice flow followed by wind to move the rocks. Mother Nature is certainly mysterious. Get any photos of Scotty's Castle?

Have you walked or rode a mule on the Bright Angel Trail? That would take a little bit of nerve I think. :)

About that...

Three days later my wife and I walked down the trail to the 3 mile rest stop (about 2400 feet of elevation down) before going back up. This shot is approximately the same spot the mules were in yesterday's photo. The top of the canyon is where I was when i took that earlier shot looking down.

Also, you can see another mule train in the bottom right of this photo that had passed us on our way down.

Unfortunately , Scotty's Castle is closed until 2020 . Apparently , a few years back there was substantial damage from flash flooding to the Castle , access road , and other infrastructure . From the NPS Death Valley website , it seems that that area took a major hit and needs big time rebuilding .
