Hiking around the Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR here in Denver, you see a mixture of things. It built chemical weapons during WWII and afterwards for Cold War activities and petrochemical production. There's this power facility, there are bunkers that I've shone previously, there are pre-WWII farm buildings, also in the POTD thread somewhere. It's great to be able to get out there for walking and photographing during this mess.

Since that one day when I saw the goose family (parents and seven little ones) I haven't seen them again, so no idea where they're spending their time. This guy was all by himself so I'm wondering if he is one of the pair that I had seen earlier and that now his mate is sitting on the nest somewhere. I looked under the boardwalk near where he was standing but didn't see anything. That nest has to be somewhere around here, though!

The male duck was on his own the last couple of times I saw him. But not seen them at all now for a few days.

His mate may also be nesting and pretty soon you'll see the whole family on the pond! In the years I've lived here and been able to observe the behavior of ducks and geese, when the female is on the nest the male doesn't go too far away from her and he protects his little family-in-the-making, so that may be why you're not seeing your ducks right now.

Hope so!
