Jumping the gun slightly and posting a little early. Technically posting on separate days, but the clock is close. Mea culpa. Won't post again tomorrow/today ;).

The fox series has been fruitful. Happy with the images I've obtained.

Wanted to share a little info I've learned shooting them.

All taken with a Sony A1. Loving the body. The best body I have ever used. Specifically, I feel these pics couldn't have been obtained with any other body I own. The AF on the A1 is just phenomenal.

The pics I have shared were all taken with the Sony 135/1.8. It is the sharpest lens I have ever used. All of these fox pics have been cropped to nearly 100%. Despite that the files hold up extremely well.

The foxes are only active in the early morning. About 6am. The light is early morning, but cloudless for the series. Not low-light by any stretch. Not quite broad daylight, but decent light.

I've found that I need a shutter speed of 1/500th sec at the minimum to capture them, even without movement. 1/800th sec is likely more ideal overall if I'm trying to freeze their motion.

I initially tried shooting them with the Sony 100-400 f/5.6. The reach with the telephoto zoom was about right. The problem was the slow aperture of f/5.6. Despite the appropriate focal length, f/5.6 completely borked the exposure as I either needed to shoot at too slow of a shutter speed or the ISO went to crazy levels that weren't acceptable.

I then tried shooting with the Sony 70-200 f/2.8. This was better as I gained some exposure leeway with the faster aperture, but the lens (at least my copy) isn't that great. AF issue? Lens sharpness issue? Not sure. But not happy with the results.

The Sony 135/1.8 is awesome. Not the optimal focal length for these shots, but the resultant files were better by a large margin than the files I obtained with either the 100-400 or the 70-200.

The pics I've shared thus far are of the two young foxes in a neutral state regarding each other or of a "loving" state regarding each other (one grooming the other).

Today's pic is of them playing more aggressively with each other. Same series, but shot just before the last 2 pics I've posted.

Will be sharing some other pics from the series over the next few days. They are an amazing pair. Playful and loving. Or viewed in a detached sense, "playing" together as a way to hone their hunting skills as well as their social skills. Was able to capture both aspects of their personalities in a relatively short time.

Thank you for the useful info and tips about the A1 and the lenses you used with it and your observations on shooting and the various shutter speeds, etc., relevant in each situation. I have the 135mm f/1.8 and the 100-400mm lenses -- the latter is one of my favorites -- but not the 70-200mm. That 135mm is a real jewel, but I tend to reach for the longer lens time after time rather than the 135. Haven't gotten my A1 yet but hopefully in another month or so when the piggy bank is ready!

Last night's supermoon in near full eclipse, got up at 3:30 for this one, would've loved to have it on a horizon in my area but it was just too high in the sky, so this one will just have to stand on its own.

Opposite problem here, I would’ve preferred it just slightly further from the horizon! I never quite got to full totality before it set, but I got pretty close.
