Ooh, I'm loving the heron fest today! OldMacs4Me, I would love to be able to go around our little lake in a boat, kayak or canoe -- unfortunately we aren't allowed; only time we see a boat out there is when the men from the company which maintains the lake and the fountain are doing some cleaning up or repairs.
Thank you for the compliments -- you're quite right that I have an advantage living where I do when I can literally shoot Alfred and his brethren from my deck or the boardwalk with a long lens and then if need be, while editing the images, do some judicious cropping as well. A few times I've gotten close enough to Alfred that I was able to get a full body or a head shot without the need for cropping, but that doesn't happen often. I don't always luck out, either -- the other day I saw him, shot him from a distance, and then walked over to the footbridge intending to get a much closer shot since he was standing on the rocks near there, and wouldn't you know, he was positioned in such a way that a leafy branch obscured his head and face!! You win some, you lose some..... LOL!
Yesterday while walking around the boardwalk I was startled to see hundreds of catfish swimming close to the surface of the water -- large and small ones, so I think this Spring's crop of new arrivals was being shown the ropes. While we do have other species of fish in the lake, catfish definitely predominate.
