Last week I was showing somebody the basics of light painting.

Wall washed with a Protomachine set to tungsten white balance and the foreground was lit with a mini Mag.

Had you set up some food for it? It's a nice capture anyway.

No, it was a target of opportunity, so no food involved. I was snapping a couple of test shots at the beach to test different exposures when this gull and its buddies swooped in and started hovering in the breeze, so I shot a few frames with the settings I had.

This one was close enough that the 35mm lens I had on (not exactly a traditional birding lens) worked out pretty well. 50mm would probably have been a little too tight, and Cheese&Apple could probably have done an eye exam with his high-power lenses. :)
