I’m planning a trip to Northumberland. Who lives around that area again? I need some tips to visit places for some awesome picture time.
What time you picking me up? Beautiful part of the country. Castle Bamburgh is stunning if you get good light.
@kenoh used to leave near there but he had to leave (spent to long looking through the Leica shop window so they banished him).
I'm sure he'll have some advice.

Good call. All the way up the coast is wonderful. Depending on your route I recommend:
Assuming you will arrive around Newcastle ish...
Durham Cathedral (short train from Newcastle)
Angel of the North
Alnwick Gardens
Alnwick Castle
Warkworth Castle
Bamburgh Castle
Lindisfarne
Duddo standing stones
Farne Islands for the birds

That should get you started... :)

Thanks a lot. I’m planning to go on the Christmas weekend. Hoping to catch the northern lights. Fingers crossed

Sometimes, well it seems to happen a lot with art 'installations', I just don't get it! o_O

Cheers Alexander, I like that sort of natural/man-made lighting balance myself but only lasted for 5-minutes.
Absolutely, you have to be there and click away over that (for us here, it's normally about half an hour) time frame to get the best result! I love taking a photo every few minutes over that duration and arriving home to see the plays of light at work as they shift and change, especially when viewed on the big screen in the home office.

Yeah I am glad you posted this. I dnt get modern art either. We had Turner Prize winners exhibit here and one of them was three dining room chairs, one of which had a fur coat hanging over it and was slightly apart from the others. It was called stigma of some BS... Pretentious crap...

Ignoring what? what did I miss?

Nicely done Ken - the shadows and contrasts work very well.

Last one from London, landscape orientation to bring in London Bridge and Southwark Cathedral. Comments always appreciated.

Another angle on London (Explored Nov 17)
by another scotsman, on Flickr

This series of LEs from that spot are fantastic! the different processing and crops and orientations give a multitude of different feels to the image... nice

the seashore was waving for some attention #kenoh

Ahh!! I get it now.. feel bad sorry.... I wasnt ignoring you... I just hadn't been notified there was a post you need to put @ in front of it not # otherwise it doesnt notify you... :) I kind of like this and the last one of the wave. I prefer the angle of the last one but didnt like the way the top cut off the water. I like this one for having captured more of the waves but I think the rock framing is consuming too much of the frame. We certainly arent getting light like that here right now.

Speaking of which I am off to Helsinki and Stockholm next week... checked the weather... I might need to take a coat..... and a hat....

You've gone soft. Geordie lads would never wear a coat!
An ex colleague of mine spends a fair amount of time in Finland now as that's where his new company is based.
More bears than people in Finland so bring back some photos.

Nice, but I agree with Ken. A little too much rock in the foreground.

Fantastic

Wow. The entire in backlight, moustache and highlight in the eye. 10/10 ( in my humble opinion)

Thank you both...much appreciated. :) I can't wait to return to the Arctic.

Glen of the Bar
November 2017

A cold crisp morning with a veil of mist above the valley floor over Glen of the Bar, Galloway Forest Park.
I first shot this scene around 3 years ago and I always wanted to come back for a monochrome image featuring a wider tonal range but with some balanced contrast throughout the scene. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. For better quality and to see finer details in the shadows, click the image to view in full screen.

Fuji X-T2 with XF16-55mm f2.8 lens using in-camera Acros+R film simulation. Handheld and no filters were required.

Outstanding @Mark0. I'm not generally a fan of B&W for landscape shots but this works beautifully.

Forget the little red sports numbers with the top down, this would be my ride. If only...!
