Thanks Dwee8le, I took it with a GH2 and Lumix 20mm lens. The EXIF says F4. Probably should have been F5.6 or more but the ISO was already 640 and I didn't want to go higher. I don't have a real macro so I usually just get right in the critters grill and hope for the best... I don't do bees :p

While I am lucky to drive through Montana every week and get to see such great scenery, it is very rare that I actually get much time to wonder around on foot. Sunday was one of those rare days, I spent several hours walking around Butte and got a bunch of great shots. My next group of pictures will be from there, starting with this one.

Such a lovely view. I'm curious about rock piles like this one. I've seen (and photographed) piles of rocks in the Alps. I always thought they marked peaks or special points, but then someone told me that people build them simply because they can. Jumbo Legos for overactive hikers? :p


And for today, more experimentation in shooting with lots of 'atmosphere'...

I used to avoid these kinds of conditions entirely, but the combination of Fall colors and diffused light is definitely growing on me as an aesthetic. And to anyone who is wondering, yes that's a massive mountain range being revealed through the hole in the clouds. It's not a montage or anything like that!

Hallaisen, you've uploaded a full resolution image. That's a no-no. First, it adds to my download time, and second, I can' even see the whole image. Please edit to an a more appropriate smaller size, say in the 1000 wide by 800 high range.
