Hallaisen, you've uploaded a full resolution image. That's a no-no. First, it adds to my download time, and second, I can' even see the whole image. Please edit to an a more appropriate smaller size, say in the 1000 wide by 800 high range.

Sorry, didn't know better. Am on an iPad and gotta go soon so dont want to try to find out how to do that so I just edited it away instead.

Edit 2: tried to resize with imgur. That better?

A quick fix is to add a "t" inside the [IMG ] tags to get [TIMG ] (leave out the spaces). You can then click on the image to get the full size one.

I used to avoid these kinds of conditions entirely, but the combination of Fall colors and diffused light is definitely growing on me as an aesthetic. And to anyone who is wondering, yes that's a massive mountain range being revealed through the hole in the clouds. It's not a montage or anything like that!

Very nice :) Shot at the right time ;)

The Zombies are comin'

In our neighborhood, every Halloween, this one neighbor turns his whole house and property into a haunted house. His yard becomes a grave yard and inside his house are dead bodies in bathtubs, spooky corners, etc. He worked as a makeup artist for movies at one time so he goes all out. Here is part of his yard's decorations:

And for today, more experimentation in shooting with lots of 'atmosphere'...

I have to ask, where did you shoot this? You've posted a couple of insanely beautiful ones. My guess is central/eastern Europe... but had to ask. Thanks!

Happy Diwali! BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Lilburn, GA, had a nice fireworks display this evening. Here is one of the shots I took tonight. I'll upload and share others as I process them. I wanted to get one done to celebrate the day before it was over.

That doesn't address the real issue. The picture is still too large. The IMG tag just plays a trick by describing a size in the HTML tag.

No expert, just a hobbyist. Heres one from Vilas County WI outside Star Lake

I have a lot of fireworks pictures from the event, but I'm going to share some of the other non-fireworks pictures, too. This one shows some of the floating candles being set loose before the fireworks started. I had to shoot this at ISO 3200 to freeze the candles in the air. Shutter speed came out 1/30 with f/5.6.

I'm curious about rock piles like this one. I've seen (and photographed) piles of rocks in the Alps. I always thought they marked peaks or special points, but then someone told me that people build them simply because they can. Jumbo Legos for overactive hikers? :p

The usual name, in England, is 'cairn': a pile of stones generally marking a summit, or path, or junction of paths... or sometimes there's no particular reason except for an easy availability of stones and idle hands. ;)

I don't mind cairns 'on the tops', but some people are making seats and benches and memorials on Lakeland summits... which can look out of place.

This little cairn doesn't mark a summit (if you're interested in a more creative interpretation of cairns, check out the work of Andy Goldsworthy)...

How did you do the original post-the one that was too big? Did you post it directly to the forum from your iPad? Did you use DropBox?

If you post to the forum from either Flickr or ImageShack, there are tutorials in the link in my sig for doing this correctly.

The original one was through Dropbox. I use Flickr normally but have forgotten my password. I then uploaded with the mobile imgur app and hoped it would be small enough. On my iPad both show up fine. I'll wait to upload more photos until I'm back home and can resize more easily with my iMac..
