We had some wild weather a couple of nights ago and I wanted to try and capture the strong winds and rain so I tried a few shots out of my front door. Unfortunately a car decided to drive up and down the street at that moment and ruined all of the shots. I quite like how this one came out though as it captures the movement of the wind in the trees nicely and is nice and sharp in places with some great colours. Didn't really even need to do anything with it in Lightroom.

My little X100 continues to surprise me with it's image quality even here at ISO1600.

I think Cheese&Apple and I are gonna make everyone sick of Newfoundland sooner or later ;)

Here is a typical Newfie having an evening snack by the side of the road.

I have seen a total of about a dozen of moose on separate occasions in Algonquin park, but this was the first one with proper huge antlers. Further research into the subject revealed that male moose shed their antlers annually and grow a new set in spring. I would have thought it takes years to grow something like this!

That may have happened already. I'm hearing the faint and distant but distinct sound of a collective "ughhhhhh" every time I put another one up. Only another 3,200 shots to go from me so hang in there themumu…we'll go down in flames together.

But seriously, I'm really enjoying your shots of Newfoundland and recognizing so many of the sights and having a chance to see them again but from your perspective.

I'm sure I've even seen this moose before. :D

Well, I'm about 40% done sorting my Newfoundland photos, and next week I'm away for another trip somewhere else entirely, so the pile up of things to weed through is only gonna grow :D

In case you're curious (don't feel obliged), my photos are part of a trip report that I'm writing on my blog (blog.friskyfreeze.com). It was a motorcycle trip, a sort of maiden voyage for me, so many shots are there not so much for their technical quality, but for the story. I have a soft deadline to finish it by Christmas, so should quit spamming that topic here by that time ;)

P.S. I'm waiting when you're gonna get to the puffins. You have great shots of them on your website, I only have a 200mm lens so couldn't get them as tightly as you :)

Honestly, I love seeing these as this stuff is SO different from the nature, landscape and fauna of where I live.
If anything, it's made me want to go visit Newfoundland.

That's a great photo. Are you sure you didn't dye its feathers to match the colours in the rest of the photo? :)

That is one of the most colourful birds I've ever seen. Are they wild birds? I'd love to be able to see something like that !

They are wild parrots around these parts.

I assure you, those photos were not colour-enhanced in any way. I didn't touch the saturation or vibrance slider. I tend to fiddle with contrast a little bit (usually just brightening up the shadows and shifting the white balance around). I also nail down the sharpness to a happy medium.

Here's another, taken today on my walk home from work.

That's right, handholding shots at 1/60th at 300mm (600mm@35mm). Using Olympus' IBIS, not the MEGA O.I.S. in the lens itself.

For the OCD type, you could always create a new layer in Photoshop and clean up the background, masking off the foreground that you want to remain sharp.

Personally, if you're only sharing on the web, it doesn't need it. If it looks OK to you at 1024px wide, it's all good, as that's the size you are predominantly sharing at. Especially if this is a heavy crop.

I don't have Photoshop, plus I think that would be out of my skill set and patients!

So what exactly is this a reflection of? Flag poll, crane?

The Zeiss Otus is no joke. The end.

Closeup of a section from a statuette of Ganesh in the garden. I love the way that the carvings dimensionality has made the focal plane crawl over it in an 'X' pattern.
