Just posted this over in the weekly contest thread. I got to photograph the abandoned Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston WV. This is one of the shots. I welcome C&C

Seeing as I'm judging that contest I probably shouldn't comment but I like these kind of shots. If you're interested in Urbex you should check out http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/ for some great shots.

I like it when these types of shots have an HDR quality to them as it can really lend an air of creepiness to the picture.

Atlantic Puffin

The only thing I enjoyed more than photographing Puffins in Newfoundland was sitting back and observing their antics and their playful social nature.

Post as requested by themumu. This is very cool...I've never had a request for a shot. Thank you! :)

I've often wondered where to go to take photos and I've always liked these photos, that site is very interesting! Thanks!

My photo for today, my friend Adam enjoying a sip of bourbon whilst sat in the van on our Scandinavian trip.

Was a nice day yesterday so I thought I'd redo a not particularly successful fall leaf drive from a few days back . Anyway , this is what my submission 2 days back should look like ....Didn't have to HDR this one .

I’m writing an article about fortified buildings in Cumbria. Not the castles, which are obviously built to withstand attack, but houses and churches which could, if necessary, be defended. They are mostly in the north of the county, close to the border with Scotland. This fortified manor house (built around a pele tower dating back to 1307) is at Drumburgh...

Thanks for the link. I was not aware of that site. I will be posting more pictures from that trip. Here is another one of my favorites. I call it the Face in the floor.

Photo of the day : October 2013

Thanks for the link. I was not aware of that site.

No worries. It's a good site. The "High Stuff" threads have some crazy pics in.

If you do a Google image search for Urbex you'll see that most of them are HDR and look really eerie and cool.

Well, I'm about 40% done sorting my Newfoundland photos, and next week I'm away for another trip somewhere else entirely, so the pile up of things to weed through is only gonna grow :D

In case you're curious (don't feel obliged), my photos are part of a trip report that I'm writing on my blog (blog.friskyfreeze.com). It was a motorcycle trip, a sort of maiden voyage for me, so many shots are there not so much for their technical quality, but for the story. I have a soft deadline to finish it by Christmas, so should quit spamming that topic here by that time ;)

I had a chance to read through your travel blog and really enjoyed the experience themumu. It was like déjà vu all over again reading about familiar sights and experiences like the sleepless ferry crossing from North Sydney, the spectacle of Western Brook Pond and Earl's in Rocky Harbour (Earl's has the best moose burgers in Newfoundland btw).

Thanks for sharing this themumu and I'm looking forward to reading and viewing the account of the remainder of your journey. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it :). Here is another freshly uploaded Newfie shot.

Untitled by FriskyFreeze, on Flickr

I was playing around with white balance in camera and trying to capture both the bright red balls and the small reflective metal boat, with weird light thrown in for good measure. I've been staring at that scene for so long on that sunset outing, it started looking kind of abstract to me ;)

Preservance

Welcome! If at first you don't succeed … :)

Please keep trying! There are some instructions in the first post on page one of this thread on how to link from Flickr. Don't use it myself so sorry I can't help. See you soon, don't go away!

It's funny, the image link showed up in your quote but not my post....confused

Lovely photo. I love this whole world of English countryside that I only really get to see through your eyes. I REALLY must travel out there one of these days. This kinda of location and landscape really appeals to me.

70-200mm

Glad you got there in the end. Welcome to the forum. How do you get on with the 70-200 2.8 Nikon lens? I tried one out at work today as we will be selling them off soon. So much faster than what I currently use, but so much bigger & heavier.

I find that it heavy also. I do a lot of hand held shots, but find that the tripod really helps with keeping it sharp.

These are really such neat buildings. Talk about maximizing your resources, building a house around an existing tower shows not only conservation of resources but a lot of ingenuity as well. Would love to see your article when it's finished.
