This thing is called the Unisphere . It was part of the 1964 NY World's Fair , and got left behind when the Fair closed in '65 . The property is now a big park . There was a ring of fountains surrounding the 'sphere , along with reflecting pools stretching back from one side . They were all emptied out , don't know if it's permanent or just because the season is ending. I was scoping the location for a night shot but now maybe I'll wait until Spring to see if the fountains are working.

A building I took some captures of last weekend, I got back to it for this one that shows it being oppressed by one of its neighbours much better.

Oh how I wish I could be photographing such beautiful Fall colors this year. What a brilliant display. Where is this, by the way?
Thank you, Ms. P! I am so pleased you like it. This spot is just north of Butte, MT beyond a small town/"suburb" known as Walkerville. I had returned to this spot after taking a sunrise photo I posted the day before but the sunlight never really lit up the mountain range to the south so I gave up. I walked up the road a little ways and was coming back when the sun peaked out from some clouds to the east and lit up these trees. The mountain range was darkened by storm clouds moving into our area. I had my 70-200 lens on because I was trying to get a shot of a moose hidden in a grove of trees so I handheld it and zoomed in on this patch of trees and fired away. The sun went behind the clouds after about 2 minutes.
A very striking image, ijohn. It has a great counter-clockwise flow out of the UL corner. Nice use of B&W too.
This is great!
My first attempt at car light trails. I'm reasonably pleased with it.
