what's your opinion of a b/w version?

Even better. B&W can't make a good photo from a poor one but can cure a lot of colour issues. I always like the way B&W can be used to bring out textures in stonework and the like.

Lol hang on... Yogi me a ban for a wee booboo like that? It was nearly a joke! Come on paws for a minute and think about it. It was funny... :)

Weak puns are never funny.

Coastal Brown Bears, Lake Clark Alaska

D5X_6792-2-XL.jpg

This past summer I spent an extraordinary week photographing the Coastal Brown Bears of Lake Clark Alaska.

The Coastal Brown Bears of Alaska are a sub species of brown bear. They are similar to the Grizzly Bears of mainland North America but larger. Female Coastal Brown Bears average 227 kilograms (500 lb) and males 408 kilograms (900 lb) in weight.

It was exhilarating to photograph these beautiful animals in their completely wild and natural habitat with nothing but an unarmed but knowledgeable guide for protection.

A beautiful picture. That standing bear has great presence, you wouldn't tangle with those claws.

Few things are like experiencing a college (gridiron) football game at your alma mater with your daughter and nearly 112,000 other fellow fans. Even better when your team wins and said daughter enjoys the experience.

Go Blue! :)

Really nice light in both of these shots. Well seen and beautifully captured.

An older photo of an anvil.

So I find this one interesting. The subject matter that is.

Based on the American's that I know, they all have a fierce pride in Made in the U.S.A. So I find it quite interesting to see an anvil made in Sweden. Shipping costs for an Anvil alone must be monstrous. So I would have expected a Made in USA. Interesting.

If I recall from the person at this particular forge, it's very old (more than 150 years) and would suggest that importing was more acceptable at the time. Also, Wisconsin and that part of the US have a strong heritage of Swedish and other cultural influences.

I have observed that all of the sewer system manhole covers in my town (population 180,000) are "Made in India". I have questioned that more than once. I cannot imagine how much they must cost to forge in America if they can be forged in India and shipped to the US more cheaply.
