I am not a mountain climber. Climbing out of bed is enough. But I have a friend who IS a mountain climber. And he’s always inviting me along. I finally said yes, in summer of 2004. We hiked up Mount Si, east of Seattle. It’s a hiking trail with a scramble up what’s known as the “Haystack” to the very top, at over 4,000 feet.

As I said, I am not a mountain climber. Ye gods.

But we were greeted at the top by this view to the south:

That is Mount Rainier. I shot this with my OG Canon Digital Rebel.

(This post is kind of cheating: I posted this photo in the Photo Association Game thread as well. I hope I haven't broken any rules too badly. I'm just immensely proud of this photo, based on the physical effort it took to get it, lol.)

One of the "dangers" of taking only a wide angle lens on a prairie hike is you have to work to find something of interest in the foreground. Alas, I did not in this instance. It's definitely not like hiking in the mountains! The only other image from this past weekend's Rocky Flats hike. I'd intended to get to a place called Lindsay Ranch, an abandoned family ranch house, but I ran out of time.

I interpreted the contrast between the shadow and the light to be the point of interest
