View from the castle

Now the independance vote is cast, thought it was time to post this view of the national Wallace monument from Stirling castle. Would have benefited from a tripod but a brief opportunity to catch the flash of sunlight through the otherwise dour sky. Comments always welcomed.

A lava rock covered in moss on a pebble beach. The holes in the rock are from gas bubbles in the lava.

I have to ask (and I am embarrassed asking), but how sir, did you get this photo so perfectly exposed?

Moon pic I took on the 7th, one night before the full "super" moon. Don't take much astrophotography, but had been wanting to capture the moon with my D810 and 80-400 lens. Still resulted in a fairly small image when cropped, but held up pretty well to upsampling. Debating on getting a dedicated telescope, but undecided on how much astrophotography ultimately interests me. Anyhoo, felt like sharing :)

400mm, f/8, 1/320sec, ISO 64. Manual exposure using a tripod.

Well, I used a tripod, f/11 and bracketed three shots around my preferred reading. So I might have shot, say, 1/125, 1/160 and 1/200... then edited the one that looked best, back on the iMac, and deleted the other two...

I can't help it! haha. I don't have a geologist "off" switch. In fact, most of my photos are of rocks, and if people are in them it's usually just for scale.

You rock Melizard! ;-) ooph poor joke...

Seriously though really nuce images. Do you do selective adjustments in your images? The rock looks completely different to surrounds. Kind of like selective colour effect but not. Nice way to make it stand out.

More please.... encore!
