Definitely an option for Wood - Belahouston has certainly changed since I was last there...

You know it is a great place. I have only known it in the last 10 years so don't really know its history. I do enjoy going to House for an Art lover for a scone and a coffee while Rebecca does her art class though, just chill out, then go wander with the camera. There are half a dozen or so sculptures so nothing earth shattering but just nice to wander round.

Why is it always so busy the first few weeks back from a holiday! Starting to go through a few of the photos,
A shot from the Valley of Desolation (that's its name, honest). Comments always appreciated.

Stunning shot @anotherscotsman
going camping in a month or so, and want to have a crack at shots like this. Any tips? Was this with an ND Filter?

Finally freed up some space on my hard drive to upload pics from holiday.

Cheers OzBok. It depends on the levels of ambient light - in wooded areas and ravines like this, the light levels are pretty low so no ND required. What I would suggest is that you use a polarising filter (CP)- it gives a couple of stops of ND but more importantly brings out the colours and removes a lot of the very fine mist you can get near waterfalls. Whilst light levels are low, the areas where sunshine does get through brings high contrast issues. Best on cloudy days or whilst the sun doesn't shine directly into the ravine. If there is high ambient light then combine an ND with CP to get the sort of exposure time you want for the water effect.

This shot was iso100, 0.5-seconds with CP filter, f16. Didn't want too-long an exposure since there was too much plant movement and there was enough water down the falls to give the sense of movement without turning into white mush. Good luck!
