Could you talk us through the settings on this image? It's dark, but you have deep depth of field (narrow aperture) and you're capturing the inline skater's motion (fast shutter speed), plus, noise is well contained (not a ridiculously high ISO). All of that adds up to a tricky shot!
I thought I'd taken that with my Fujifilm X-Pro2 but now I come to look, I didn't. It was taken with the little Fuji X70 at it's native 18mm (APS C). I had it wide open at f2.8 to capture as much light as possible and I think the depth of field comes from focusing a way into the view plus the relatively wide angle lens gave it a reasonable depth of field. The promenade is well lit at night so the subjects aren't walking about in the dark and I'm never afraid to let the whites go to white and the blacks to black. After all, there's no detail in those to the naked eye. The ISO was 4000 but the Fujis can go a lot higher than that without too much noise. The shutter speed was 1/60.

48 hours from now and I'll be back there again!!

You should try Northern California. September is the warmest month, and the last two days almost everywhere was 40 °C or so. Except right on the coast, where the ocean is still chilli. Stayed indoors all day on Saturday like a loser, avoiding the heat.

I'm not even sure if I'm bragging or complaining. Probably complaining. ;)

He he he.... you have just got back from the south west! I am back over in November... going to do my four days hiking before the work conference thing again, then heading to LA to see bro in law before schlepping home to Mrs Kenoh who will have zero tolerance for "I am exhausted honey".... So any tips from your trip, I would love to hear them. I am trying to not do a repeat of last year because I know it will not be anywhere near as amazing but I loved it so much!
