I use Star Walk 2 but I didn't check the forecast before I drove to Joshua Tree. I just took the photo since I'm there anyways

Oh wow! I'm so surprised you know the ISO. It's 13 seconds at f/1.4 and ISO 640 to minimize the star trails. RAW format really pushes the sensor's dynamic range abilities

It could have been worse. September 1st I was using an app that suggested clear skies. I was intending to maybe go via a round about route that had me North of Yucca Valley so drove to the park. Saw lightening East but drove into the park anyway. Things got worse from there. I now wonder if the app wasn't connected to the internet and showed an image from earlier in the day. The app is called Clear Outside.

Here is a composite I made from a few images. It started raining so I had to bring the camera into the truck, otherwise I would have let it shoot more images, via the connected intervalometer. Each shot was 30 seconds.

Your posted image had a lot of EXIF data.

Oh wow that's incredible. IMO, that's definitely worth the trip! I've not done any composite yet, only one panorama merge is the only thing I've done so far.
I just realized it too that Flickr doesn't remove the EXIF data on their resizing. I normally have it set at ISO 1600 which gives it about a +1 EV on f/1.4 and 13 seconds if Joshua Tree is completely dark that time. I kind of guess that about 2.5 stops down on the ISO should be enough to gather the milky way directly with the moonlight.
I was about to go as well on Labor day, but I did check that it's going to be raining that time using the stock weather app from the iOS and no I don't want to ever be there when it's raining or some thunderstorms.
