Olympus e300 f5.0 - older image of tree along drive - Pt Reyes California

It's the birds who are the really messy eaters! They get in the tray and fling the seeds around, especially when suddenly they are spooked by a noise and take off right from the tray -- seeds go flying, too. Every day I have to get out there and sweep the deck clean -- a pain! Haven't done it yet today, but it's next on my list of things for this afternoon....

Darmok, we have a bunch of squirrels in the condo community common grounds area where the trees are.....but so far only three of them have discovered the joys of treats available on my deck: Smaug and Mr Nervous, plus another one I haven't gotten around to naming. My building and my deck aren't all that close to the common grounds, and there are no large trees immediately adjacent to my deck, and no grass, just the boardwalk and the lake. Usually one squirrel will show up and then eventually the second..... I've only seen the three of them on the deck at the same time on a couple of different occasions. I am just as happy not to have too many of them hanging out here -- the ever-growing bird population is plenty! Started out with about three or four birds and now there are around 30!!! I have the feeling that maybe my neighbors aren't too thrilled, as the birdies can be rather noisy, flying in-and-out, chirping and tweeting, etc. I also worry about the seeds dropping down from my deck to the one below, which could be annoying to that neighbor..... I haven't met him yet, he is new here, just moved in a few weeks ago.

OK so, I have been playing with film for a while. I finally worked up the courage to process one of my films myself.

As expected the first roll was a bit of a bumpy ride. I completely ruined the film during the processing process in typical man style - I read the manual AFTER having a bash at it... Anyway of a roll of film with 36 exposures I managed to ruin all except 5 frames so I “scanned” them in (macro lens and a tripod with negative laying on an ipad screen)
Back in the mid sixties I changed majors and colleges from electrical engineering to photography at Rochester Institute of Technology. Before I had any classes I got a summer job at a commercial photography. They shot most of their shots on 4x5 or 8x10 sheet film. One day they put me a darkroom and told me to develop some extra 8x10 b&w shots in trays! They briefly showed me how, then left the room. When I got done, it looked like someone walked across the negative with cleats son. I soon got proficient at that. At RIT I got an afternoon job at professional color lab washing and drying the last batch of prints of the day (mostly 16x20) so they didn't have to hang around. After I got my associates degree I got a real job as the staff photographer for the Public Relation Department at RIT. Did my own b&w 35mm and 4x5 processing and printing. Also did some color print process on the Kodak drum.

Haven't kept up with photography as I would have liked, this is my current 'hobby':

Zipping through the back woods of the East Bay. I get some strange looks because of my age, when I take my tires in to be changed and they are all worn down on the edges.
Find yourself some nice light kit to take with you! I'd think you see many a cool sight on a good road trip.

Excellent, challenge the stereotypes. People need to learn that what they think is the norm, is actually compliance. We all have to walk our own path and if you can, then do it!

I remember coming back from the Grand Canyon North rim with a work colleague (we were over in the states for a conference) and this biker laid us and our rental car to waste on a big long straight section.

We rocked up at the next service station for a coffee and a sandwich and there he was. A guy easily in his late 60s is full race leathers and he was grinning ear to ear. We bought hi lunch and talked bikes for an hour - really nice guy. Oh and it is good to see it isn't a Harley ride on lawnmower you have...
