Light

Hammond Oregon. After a cup of coffee, I got dressed, put on my canvas walking shoes and ventured out from our campsite at Fort Stevens. I walked a paved path through a mystical forest lined with tall trees covered in shrubs below. The path was dark, with bits of light shining through the openings in the tree branches. Opening on to a few sun bathed grassy areas, then to settle back to the dim glow of the forest. I passed a water area, with no-see-ums (I saw them) flying around. The water was still. Light specked the area. I walked back to the campsite, meeting a man along the way. He was riding a trike bicycle and mentioned that there was a garter snake on the path if I wanted to photograph it. I walked on and did not see the creature.

Last night's launch
Cool! I TRIED last night to capture Space X, I've seen previous passes of the Falcon 9 off to the east in the Philly, NJ area, Literally a last second setup of my Canon at 3, 4am, bad location (too bright) and the photos came out like blah! It does looks like a slow moving comet...near sunrise it appears as this wild massive white glow / fuzzy cloud, it's surreal.

Anyway last night, it had basically the same trajectory as Falcon. So hopeful....but low clouds, storms to the W-NW blocked it. ? By 8:12,-8:15 PM local time, it already passed. (it takes about 7-8 min from Florida to DC, Philly area until you see it)

Captures planes though. LOL (Small horizontal "streak" to the left of the moon is - I fairly sure - Venus.)

Almost winter...
Love Alaska! My dad and I went up there in July 1991, 19 years old...at the time I really had no idea about the amount of daylight--the time of sunrise and sunsets. But wow...you learn fast and it was just crazy in my mind.

About a 3:15am sunrise, sun didn't set until after midnight. It didn't quite compute back then ?.

But absolutely loved it up there!

I haven’t seen my friends much in the garden lately. Probably packing their bags for migration season.

Yesterday I had a close encounter with one of them. I think is a young male, red neck and green feathers. Every time I put some more food out for them, he comes and kind of thanks for it. Yesterday I had both iPhone 12pro and Panasonic Lumix. If I tried to move he was ready to fly away. Less than a meter from my face!! Impossible to have the time to find the right focus on my camera. When the food is out he comes by the window and ask for it. I got a video but no photos.

Nearly 24 hours of daylight by 20 June, and about the same amount of darkness in December :) The window shades at my home have an additional layer of a material that blocks the light. Because if going to bed by 10:00 PM in mid June, the sun is still "shining." But so many hours of darkness depresses a lot of people, specially those who stay indoors, or don't have hobbies (things like that).
