The BirdsYesterday while hiking the 2.2 mile "Birding Trail" at the Wetlands Park, I was looking out at the water and didn't notice the 4 sandhill cranes along the road ahead. Maintenance workers in their vehicle caused them to fly at me with their low, slow takeoff. Instinct was not to duck...but put the camera to my face. They were so close, they were inside the minimum focus of me lens - just immediately shoot and thankfully shutter set continuous-hi. Since this is a single photo of the day, this is one of a 4 shot burst before it was all over, with the last one wings in the frame. For reference, Sandhill Cranes are large birds standing 4' to 5' (1.5m ??) and weighing 10-12 lbs.
The guys in the vehicle stopped as they passed as they witnessed everything. We had a good chuckle as none of us could believe what just happened.

While it's not a frog and there's no Powershot involved either(!), an excellently captured shot.View attachment 1851275

Do you know what this is? I have the same plant flowering right now as well.
Looks like perhaps an autumn crocus of some variety - we should have some starting in our yard soon.Do you know what this is? I have the same plant flowering right now as well.

Yeah, I never thought about crocus because it’s a fall bloomer. My only experience with them in the past is late winter/early spring. These are also so much bigger than what I’m used to, but I think you both are on to something!I think it's a Crocus vernus (spring crocus, giant crocus)
