Well time for day two post will be doing birds today I get lots of beautiful birds at feeders in yard during spring migration this is one of my favorites the Scarlet Tangier. They hang around for a few weeks then disappear into tree tops with plentiful insects.

There's a good reason there's no Public Basketball playing as it is also used for a parking lot during non school days.

“Twelve O’Clock High”. The bombardier’s position, with Norden bombsight and view in a B-17G Flying Fortress, the “Aluminum Overcast”, on a flight over Puget Sound, WA. Interesting facts: the B-17G had 13 .50 cal. machine guns with a 13 rounds/sec. firing rate. The plane carried enough ammo (5970 rounds total) for approx. 1 minute of sustained fire per gun – they had to be fired in short bursts to husband the ammo (an ammo belt for the cheek gun is visible on the left in the photo). Depending on mission length, the B-17G could normally carry up to 8,000 lbs. of bombs. In contrast, a new F-35C in non-stealth “Beast Mode” can carry up to 22,000 lbs. of ordnance internally and externally (including 220 rounds for it 25mm Gatling gun – about 4 secs. worth of firing).

Whoa… how did you end up on a flying B-17?

For a number of years this bird, the Red-Headed Wood pecker one of the most beautiful woodpeckers here in Illinois was absent in yard but last 4 years or so we now have them early in season before bugs and other food available and they don’ need our feeders. Usually around them a month here in east central Illinois.
