Standard shots from my morning dog walk with a bit of tweaking in tones and sizing on a couple of them that were too big.

Haven’t had an opportunity to test fully yet but these new photographic styles seem like a winner. Really cool, almost exactly what I’ve been looking for from the stock camera. Super quick to change the look of an image without the over the top effect from filters prior.

If you’re using photographic styles in your pictures in this thread please tell us.

Coming from the 14 PM I’d say this 16 PM camera system is definitely a step up for everyday shooting. Not massive and not a must have but noticeable. 24MP stills by default are great.
Are the ones that say the undertones, the only ones you can default? I keep trying to save it to “dramatic” that says mood.

Since I want a compact camera with good quality and a zoom from ultra wide to 70mm FF equivalente I end up choosing a smartphone
I''m an apple user and I use iPhone 14 PRO as my main phone and got a Xiaomi 14 Ultra as camera phone
In RAW Xiaomi is way better, has 1" sensor on main camera.

As far as I know there isn't any specs about "new sensors"

I'm interested to see some RAW since is really hard to tell how good is the camera from a JPG
Can I download some RAW any where ore somebody can give me some test shots

Here a 100% of Xiaomi vs iPhone 14 Pro main camera, both from RAW with Capture One

iPhone on the left and Xiaomi on the right
I did shoot Xiaomi at 12mpx and iPhone at 48mpx is 100% for iPhone image and almost 200% for Xiaomi in the more zoomed picture, the other one is 100% based on Xiaomi file

If main camera is not better than 14 Pro I will keep current setup for a while

That’s interesting… I know the 15 pro max has a 1/2” sensor & the 16 pro sensor is said to be 12% larger. I have the 16 pro max now & I really like the camera. I shoot ProRAW all the time. I can provide so ProRAW files for you. You can message me and provide a link for me to upload them.

I have a Sony A7R V and Sony & Sigma lenses, but I always use my iPhone because it’s so much fun to use. I’ll use the Sony as needed though.

The photographic styles don’t override the processing. It’s like applying a filter to a photo; I don’t see much difference between that and a filter.

I chose my old iPhone 7 for my European trip over the iPhone 15 for the photos. The difference is so evident, especially in color science. The iPhone 7 captures moments accurately, with realistic colors that would look very muted to an iPhone 15 user, and proper skin tones. Overcast skies are let to be overcast — it doesn’t do the fake brightening of faces and objects and provides more natural contrast and depth when it’s cloudy. The 15 does it regardless of any photographic style applied. Even if you decrease the saturation, turn off night mode etc. it still produces messy images and trashes the lighting.

The 7 is just much more unbiased and transparent, willing to let the scene set the tone instead of wrestling with it. The 15 over-lights everything, ruining the vibe, the faces, and the nostalgia when looking back at the photos. And for me, the reason I took a photo in the first place is because I want it to bring me back somewhere. Especially when viewing photos on a large display, the iPhone 15’s scenes appear surreal, like a realistic watercolor painting or an AI-generated image. I just don’t connect with the photos it takes as well. And the 15 is a very notable improvement in what I hate about it over the 13 which was an absolute mess of a camera in exactly those aspects (worse than 12 imo).

I suppose you trade the grain and noise of earlier iPhones for this, but I’m not sure that’s a good trade. I prefer the grain to the what seems like AI-generated crisp “fill” that replaces the missing details where noise used to be with random artifacts. From what I'm seeing, the 16 is a step backwards from the 15, looking more AI-generated, aggressive and flat.
Your description of why you choose an iPhone 7 over iPhone 15 shows clearly that you are in the super minority of minorities when it comes to what people want from a photo. I understand it's subjective but if Apple made the iPhone process image to your liking, to be like a 10 year old device, I'm sure they'll go bankrupt selling iPhones. You just need to buy a dedicated mirrorless camera if what you described is what you want because there is no way Apple can serve you in the 0.0001% of user base.

Af far as I can understand the "new" ultra wide is a quad bayer sensor instead a single bayer sensor
And if I got it right sensor size is the same...
In this video it seems to confirm that the camera upgrade is minimal

I have the 16 pro max now, I can tell the difference between the 15 pro & 16 pro models using the UW camera. Night mode is great using the 16 pro max UW camera. In a nearly dark environment, the UW camera was using ISO 640 which is great. Low noise and great performance. Taking photos of a menu on the wall at a restaurant from a good distance shows how much more resolution the new sensor has. The optics are the same though, there is still vignetting in the corners in a low lit room. I don’t know how big the sensor is in physical size, but I don’t think it matches the 1x sensor. The F stoppers test was ok, but could have been better. It seems it was quickly put together. Ultra wide lenses are wide (obviously) therefore they don’t capture as much resolution as other camera lenses that bring the subject closer, like the 1x & 5x because the subject is small and appears far away on the UW. Better controlled test should have been done by FS I think.

@ToddH I‘m looking forward to your comparision of Milky Way / Night Sky shots between the 15PM and 16PM :).
Yeah.. same here. The sky conditions lately have been lousy with low transparency and contrast. Plus I have to wait for the moon phase to decrease a bit more. Hopefully this week will yield better results. I’ll post them as I get them. Thanks for asking…

To be honest I’m not so sure. I think they can still tune to achieve realism without the obvious fakeness and playing so much with the light.

It is subjective indeed. But in many cases it looks objectively bad and many dislike it. TikTok is full of non-enthusiast people complaining about this and people giving fake tips on reducing the effect like turning off lens correction, etc. which obviously doesn’t work for this. People just like themselves better on older iPhones’ photos. The over-sharpening and skin tones make you look older and your skin less healthy, which of course people dislike.

I’m not talking about something like Process Zero (in an app) but just less so that it doesn’t ruin it. That’s why I hate to see the 16 has dialed that up.

I took a bunch (around 300) pictures over the weekend and it was a great opportunity to play around with the new button (or control !). When I received my 16PM I wasn’t sure about it, now after a few hundred shots I’m convinced. It definitely isn’t a gimmick (nor is it perfect) to me but really a nice feature which gives me a quick and easy control of how I frame my shots. Only time will tell if other users feel the same.

100% agree. I’ve been using it a lot and the new camera controls are a legit game changer! I’m loving it! Once I realized you could flick to the next full step I was sold!

I went from 14 pro max to 16 pro max and I loved the camera quality of the 14 but comparing the two the 16 is a major upgrade.
