Twice as many stars visible!

The 16 pro max using night mode for 30ā€ shows more stars than the 15 pro max using night mode and ISO 640. The images are heavy cropped screenshots of the un edited ProRAW image. Arrows point to two galaxies, M31 & M33. In the 15 pro max 30ā€ night mode image, M33 is barely visible and fewer stars are seen compared to the 16 pro max. Now all I need is a dark sky and good transparency. Hopefully a cold front will come through soon.

Also the 5x camera has improved. More detail seen on the moon. I used a tripod, the Moment app, manual focus with focus peeking, lowered the ISO to about 160, 1/45 shutter and this is why a tripod is recommended so the iPhone will be stable. Photo edited in Lightroom.

This is probably a 300% crop

I did see in video about the camera that from the new button you can manipulate TONE, is that White Balance?
I can't find them ant new styles on my 15 Pro, so I guess Apple did not add them on previous models

Which app did you use sorry? Is it the Pro Camera by Moment?

Looking for something that allows manual focus etc

I took the below on the day I got the phone (release day) using the stock camera app and handheld (leaning on the car)

The pictures are great. I swear if Apple had hired you they could have saved some money and convince me to buy the iPhone 16 Pro. Please keep posting pictures. I swear I said I wouldnā€™t buy the iPhone 16 Pro, but now I am so close to buying it. I think the upgrade is worth it especially for the improved camera quality over the 13 Pro that I am currently using.

Yeahā€¦ this one.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pro-camera-by-moment/id927098908

I only used it on the moon though. The default camera using night mode for the sky. The manual focus feature in the moment app is awesome. Very precise and not over saturated with peeking color.

Yeah a good improvement over the 15 pro and a huge improvement over the 13 pro. The sky where I live is dark enough yet lots of light pollution. As you can see in this before and after image of a section of the Milky Way. Using Lightroom mobile, I had to really stretch the edit to bring it out. A dark sky is best.

Awesome thank you! Worth the price then!?

I had to just turn down the exposure manually and hoped it focused šŸ¤£.
For me itā€™s worth the price. If you take a lot of photos than this app is very helpful. You can pinch the zoom on your subject using this app and manually focus and then zoom back out to take your photo if needed. I do that with the moon but not much anything else. Well I hope it focused for you.

Thanks ToddH for the first impressions! I didnā€˜t expect such an improvement between the 15PM and 16PM. I thought the 15PM was already amazing, being able to shot good photos of the night sky with a mobile phone that has tiny lenses. Now i am tempted again šŸ˜„

You are not alone. I am tempted to buy the iPhone 16 Pro as well.

This camera is a true beast. Quite big difference vs 15 Pro Max on all lenses which is probably thanks to the new ISP in A18 Pro.

Exactly! Itā€™s not always about a new sensor and all, the ISP plays a huge role. Just look at the Pixel lineup, it has the same sensor for years and still produced some of the very best photos.

The 16 Pro with the A18 and new ISP definitely shoots much better photos than my 15 Pro.

I took a picture of these peppers the other night because I wanted to ask ChatGPT what kind they were, and I thought the color in the photo looked nice. The answer is Shishito peppers by the way.

And Iā€™ve noticed photos donā€™t look as nice posted here as in the photos app. They lose their HDR-ness.

Sureā€¦ you are welcome. The difference reminds me of the comparison moving from the 14 pro max to the 15 pro max. The 15 had twice the stars over the 14. I see the same results with the 16 over the 15. I was hoping for that. Now that youā€™ve been temptedā€¦..Getcha one.
