Guessing you're shooting straight RAW from a 3rd party app and then editing them correct?

The "Stock camera" label below the images is actually wrong. These are shot using ProCamera with Regular RAW (not ProRAW) and then edited in lightroom. The 5x shot on the church close up is using a tripod but the other shots are handheld.

I can really recommend using third party apps to get a more natural look from the photos of 16 Pro Max. Stock camera has a lot of editing going on. ProRAW is not really a real RAW format. But you can get real RAW files using another software.

I see much less noise on 16 PM compared to 15 PM so it is easier to edit them to preserve detail. Actually a much bigger upgrade than I expected.
So, to get best Photo:
1 shot Photo using ProCamera with Regular RAW (not ProRAW)
2 open lightroom and open dgn file
3 export Photo in jpeg format

that’s all?
or i’ll have to apply some editing in lightroom to get more detail?

thanks 😁

Which app you use for shooting RAW?
Halide?
Moment?
ProCamera?

ProCamera

Did you shot this with Moment Camera? And if yes, did you used focus peeking ? Because I can’t seem to get it working on my end…it’s set on and it does not show green while I am dialing in the focus…
Yeah I used the moment app. I changed the focus peeking color a few times to visually see which is best. Right now I’m on red. The peeking in that app sometimes is hard to see on certain objects. But often that’s a good thing because the app peeking isn’t over saturated. The easiest way is to use a tripod, otherwise do this: while on the 5x camera, use a two finger zoom and zoom in on the moon, set your focus, then zoom back out. You’ll see the peeking color on the edge of the moon. Then adjust your ISO to about 120 (if taking a photo of the moon at night) otherwise let the app adjust the ISO automatically if this is taken during the day. Same for night, shutter speed adjusted to where the moon is exposed how you want it. Then take the photo. If during the morning hours after sunrise, just manually focus by pinching to zoom in far, focus, then zoom all the out. Take the photo. Attached is the raw image before the edit

I would love to get a professional photographer to suggest the best camera settings to shoot photos on my iPhone 16 Max.
That’s why you have the new button. You adjust settings based on what you are capturing. People who just click, of course, do not like the button.

Amazing. I wish Apple was watching this thread, so they could then just go use all that computational power to recreate your process with one tap. Everything needed is already in the phone, as you demonstrate the hardware is capable. And it's probably less intensive that what they're doing now!

It's a shame we have to go the long way round to get something the phone is already capable of doing.

So you're not using a tripod for most of these? I'm trying to understand how it's so sharp at 0.2s, 0.08s, etc.

Thanks for the long answer :)
One thing I noticed, you shoot in ProRaw, right, or in HEIF? Because when I use the normal RAW with the moment app, it says zoom isn’t available with RAW. It’s only functioning with ProRaw or HEIF.

If you see 1s or longer shutter speed then I have been using a tripod. I have a small magsafe tripod that I can attach to the back of the phone like an Apple Wallet. Very handy. https://eu.peakdesign.com/products/mobile-tripod

0.2s is possible handheld when holding the phone stable against something. I usually shoot 3-4 shots of the same scene and pick the one with least motion blur.

The biggest difference between 15 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max is that I see much less noise in the RAW files and slightly better dynamic range.

Glad I could help… Yes I have ProRAW set in the Moment app. Photo quality set to Quality. Prefer 48mp. When I zoomed in, I used the finger - thumb spread on the screen a couple of times to get maximum zoom, then focused, zoomed all the way back out, held still & took a few photos.

Although a great MagSafe tripod but Peak Design are quite expensive (I have many clips/mounts/etc for my DSLR’s). There is a far cheaper MagSafe Tripod available on Amazon. Here is the link which should be available elsewhere:- https://amzn.eu/d/3tDs06t
