RAW files should not have a ”look” that can be preferred imho. The purpose with RAW is to preserve as much information as possible. As untouched as possible. If an unedited RAW looks bad that is really a good thing because it means that you have a greater possibility to make it yours and match what you saw at the scene.

ProRAW is already baked - most post processing is already done. Convinient yes, but not flexible.

I so much wish there was a way to capture regular RAW in 48MP.
Have you tried the “Even Longer” app? It’s the best for pure raw shots. Your night scenes will benefit from that app in frame Averaging mode. It will stack many raw files to produce the cleanest files. Shadows can be limited in post with zero noise. The app works great with star trails also, moving water & clouds. It’s a tripod only app

Just tried it but the viewfinder is completely black 😕

I’m guessing that you set the shutter speed. The app defaults to the lowest useable iso for clarity. To get shots at night, I set the exposure to 1 second (depending on the brightness of the scene) and adjust the EV +/- then expose for a minute or so. There are more modes, FA, LT for light trails, ST for star trails, & NM for night mode. You’ll get shots like this.. these were 15-20 minutes in star trails mode

I am honestly impressed by this camera.

I did not enjoy the camera on the 15 Pro Max at all. I hated how quick the macro would kick in and lower the quality and i had a very inconsistent experience with mine. I think i had a faulty camera unit but could not be sure.

After getting the 16 Pro Max and taking it to Kew Gardens i am very impressed with the consistency of the camera.

Apple needs to work on some of the colour styles in my opinion but other than that I am loving it.

Would love to post some images but they are too big to add to this post.

Amazing images.

I think the app is not working on 16 yet. Shutter at 1s and viewfinder still black.

Even Longer actually takes photos even though the viewfinder is black so I managed to do a comparison with stock ProRAW. And yeah, this app has some serious detail.

This is 300% crop from 5x lens. Check the trees behind the observatory. EL left, ProRAW right.

Hmmm I used my EL app last night in the house, it worked fine on my 16 pro max.

Wow yeah. The more images you stack, the more detail and noise free the images get. I’ve used the app for product photography in the house in FA mode and it’s amazing, just a one minute exposure of stacks & the final raw is large format quality. I need to try it on the stars tonight in ST mode to see if I get a black screen. Thanks for the comparison shots.

Cool! Glad you are enjoying the camera. I am also. I use an app called image size. I use it to increase or decrease an image and this app resizes beautifully. There is a pro version & non pro. Not sure what the difference is, I’ve used both. I usually resize the image to 15mp or less to post here.

if you post here from your iphone you don’t need to ever resize a photo. you can just tap to upload a photo, tap on drop image, photo library, and then before choosing the photo tap the options icon in the lower right. and choose large instead of full image.

iPhone 16promax vs 15promax. Shots taken at the same time with 30s exposure with raw. Both photos edited in Lightroom. 16pro captures more colors, some stars looks blue while on 15pro they are mostly just white.

Does ProRAW work on your 16PM with 30s exposure? For me that leads to a broken image (just gray, 0 byte). HEIC works.

Or did you use a third party app?
