Nice swell!!! This recently? I love a sunrise like that - you captured the colors perfectly.:)

Biased, simply because of the waves in the photo. :p

Oh oh oh… Aquariums are sooo cool, but shooting in them decently just doesn't happen, filled up my card at one and had about ten nice ones, which weren't even from their big tank because everything was blue!

Well I have quite a few good ones (lots of great penguin shots (I posted one), and lots of photos from an outside show involving a whale and 4 dolphins doing tricks), but I posted that blurry one because that thing was the coolest thing I saw next to the giant crab I saw (leg span of at least 7 feet, I think).

Anyway, second last aquarium one I'll post. It's another dolphin one swimming upside down. I may post one of the whale later.

I like the whale Abstract - I take it you had to crop that a little (at 50mm haha?) Fast lens though. ;)

Nope. :p I only cropped a tiny bit to get a cable out of the photo. The photo is 1834 x 2759 pixels while the original is around 2000 x 3000 pixels.

It helps that the action happened 40 metres front of me, and the whale is massive and fills the frame nicely.

Ah ok nice. Ugh, as weird as it sounds I don't have a 50mm prime yet. I really want to go for the 1.4 over the 2, but yeah.. $$$.

Random one from work at the Washington International Horse Show - Verizon Center.
Not sure what the EXIF is, I'll get it when I go home tho.

In my opinion, the f/1.4 isn't worth paying double over the 50 mm f/1.8. It's only 2/3rds of a stop different, which is nothing. It's not even so sharp at f/1.4, although if you're shooting with such an aperture, critical sharpness isn't your biggest concern, as no 50 mm f/1.4 lens is really so hot at f/1.4. The 50 mm f/1.8 serves me fine, although honestly, I'd rather have the Nikon 35 mm f/2 because it seems more useful with the APS-C sensor. I think it's the same price as the 50 mm f/1.4 as well.

Stupid Nikon D50 sucks at high ISOs:

Nikon D50
Focal length: 46mm
Exposure time: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/5
ISO equiv.: 1600
Exposure: manual

Exactly, with the 1.5x crop, a 35mm puts you at about the 50mm target for the human eye's focal length. I'm waiting for a good, fast, sharp DX 35mm. You'd think there would be a huge demand for such a lens. :(

No camera's going to be pretty at 1600, come on! Except maybe a Fuji  .
But yeah, the D50 was best in its class for high ISO noise.

I would have set it to aperture priority at the widest, underexposed a little, and adjusted my ISO till the shutter was fast enough that I could hand-hold it, you'd probably be at ISO 1000ish. Unless you're just doing a demo of the noise reduction stuff. :)

The D50 doesn't suck at high ISO. I have never seen noise that high come from my D50. If exposure was poor, that's a different story. I guess you can overexpose a bit like in Canons. And besides, that "after" photo has so much detail taken out of it. I prefer it over the "before photo", but even the skin tone and exposure are different from the "BEFORE" photo, so it's not even a fair comparison between the two.

I hate rainy days…

…Especially in Massachusetts, when it rains its cold, and misserable, and its been doing this for almost 4 days…

Aperture: f/5.6
Shutter: 1/13
Exposure Bias: +.7ev
ISO 100
Focal Length: 88mm

Some messing around with highlights, the monochrome filter and a dash of exposure in Aperture.

The D50 only goes from ISO 200-1600. And the way you explained is usually the way I would do it but I get bored and try to challenge myself to find a way to fix an image. I think the only reason I complain is because my boss has a Fuji Finepix S2 Pro with his D200 and there is like less noise at 3200 ISO than a Nikon has at 400.
