Nikon D200
Nikon 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 VR
20mm DX (30mm FF)
ISO 400
Photomatix Pro 2.4 Beta
Composite of 5 shots (-2, -1, 0, +1, +2 EV)

Anti-ghosting was once again applied to reduce blur compared with the previous rendition. This series was shot standing up on an unanchored boat without a tripod.

That is an awesome shot. How many HDR shots did you take in India? Where all did you go? I was there last year, before my DSLR days and looking at your pictures makes me want to go back there.

Slow Down

I want to add a frame to it.

But is there software or anything. Because I want a nice even one (I'll prolly screw it up though in photoshop)

Victor M. how do you do it. photoshop or other

Im not a fan of electronic frames, but that is a great shot

Taken with my brand new Nikon D80[/QUOTE]

Great use of DoF. Almost makes me want to use a SLR again:)

Bad day = Powerful image.

That's a very fine image, I hope that improves your day.

Today I took a break from NYC to visit the lodges and frozen lakes at Bear Mountain in upstate New York. I figured that it would be a great opportunity to try out my new D40. I planned on walking out on the lake which seemed to be frozen over until I saw this:

Really not a great shot at all. However, I'm just soooo happy that I finally found an official set of component (HD) cables for my Wii. I've been playing my games in 480i on my HD set for a while, and it just looks like crap. Granted, the Wii only outputs 480p, but it should still be a substantial improvement. I got my Wii at launch, and the cables were backordered on Nintendo's site until early January. I hunted stores, but only came accross off-brand cables. I finally just gave up. After a month of just not caring, I ran accross this set at Best Buy yesterday.

Sony DSC-N2, Auto Macro Settings.... if anybody cares. :p

was there also a photoshop effect used on the Taj mahal?
Actually Photoshop wasn't used at all. I used ACDSee Pro 8.0 (my most-used photo app on the PC) to adjust highlights and shadows, and rotate/resize the image.

That is an awesome shot. How many HDR shots did you take in India? Where all did you go? I was there last year, before my DSLR days and looking at your pictures makes me want to go back there.
Because RAW files are huge on the D200, I decided to shoot everything in JPEG. I took around 500 shots in and around the Taj, and a bunch more in neighboring attractions such as Agra Fort, Sikandra (burial place of Akbar the Great), Fatehpur Sikri (fort built by Akbar the Great), etc., both HDR and non.

The sunset picture was taken on my second trip to India out of three last year (it's great when all expenses are paid by the company). I went to Bangalore, Mysore and Coorg on the first trip, and to Delhi and Agra (home of the Taj Mahal) on the second. Didn't get a chance to sightsee on the third, but I'd like to visit the Himalayan region next time.

You might be interested in these threads from last year:

  • Colorful India, first weekend of my first trip.
  • India Weekend #2, also from the first trip.
  • From the second trip, early experimentation with HDR. Many of my early attempts really lack contrast and have exaggerated saturation and tone. Live and learn!

Here is a photo I took today of my dog Jack. He still barks at himself in the mirror as if it were another dog and he is a year old. I hoped he would figure it out by now.
