This is really the first time I tried composing my shot, thinking about where to put the subject, and what to do with the background. I think it came out allright, would have prefered a better subject, but cant as for everything. Please tell me what you think.

Looks good to me, the horizon is pretty straight, the background is nicely blurred, and the lighting seemed good for you. The only critique I have is the blur in the foreground (crop) or use a slightly lower f/stop, and the main subjct matter being a tad sharper. (If handheld its still really good).
You also seem to have a spot in the middle about an inch from the left side of the Gull. Might be flare or sensor dust. It's really hard to say.
The composition though seems very nicely done.

…go for a walk yesterday, because my suitemates are forcing me out of my room. and this was taken at sunset not at night, I just think it looks cool because it looks like it is at night.

Very nice I love images that are composed to lead you into them. Great lighting too.

Yes that's what i did but without the adapter, i just handheld the 50mm reversed in front of the 18-55mm. You can do it with other lenses too but the lens on the camera must be of longer focal length than the reversed lens. And the longer the focal range the greatest the magnification.

For example by having a 100mm on the camera and a 50mm reversed gives you a 2:1 magnification (somebody correct me if i' am wrong).

The downside is that it's a bit inconvenient to hold it in place and also the focusing distance is about 1 cm, so you have to be really close to the subject.

You can also hold a reversed lens directly in front of the camera if you only have 1 lens but you loose aperture controls.

Try it it's fun!

does that mean the two lenses should have about the same ring size?

edit: what adaptor is that?

Trying to balance light and getting all the birds.
Probably should have gone to ISO 800...

I like the two seagulls standing on the ice flow in the middle of the river.
Oh, location - taken in Barrington, Rhode Island, across the river towards the town of Warren.
