Thanks for the feedback, xfiftyfour, Jelaboo, and Martin C. I think the colored version is starting to grow on me but I will do as suggested and muck around with the b&w version a bit in Photoshop to see if I can get it to look better with some increased contrast.

I like the colour version personally. I know almost nothing about photography but I know what I like to see.
I figured I'd try to desaturate this since there weren't any interesting colors in the original shot and the main focus was the shadows and different textures of the wall. But which one do you guys think is better? Thoughts?
I tried the Orton technique , nifty trick there! Here's an attempt at it. No reason why I chose this photo, just the newest one in iPhoto. Probably could have found a better one.
don't know about the exif data. taken on auto mode from a 350D and "ortonized" in photoshop.
edit: ortonized some other photos - will have to wait till tomorrow to post them though. darn.

This grasshopper was extremely small. I could have fit at least ten on the nail of my little finger. I used a close up filter and digital zoom to get much more than 1:1 macro ratio. My water bottle served as a brace.

That is a great photo! I love it. The way that headlines is in focus is superb, very poetic.
This was a few Saturdays ago, a dolphin family was passing by... a lot of smoke down here from fires made the haze seem surreal.
