Nothing about this picture really sticks out for me, but, wow.. that ship is gigantic.
I had never been so up close to a large cruise ship and was struck by the engineering effort that would have gone into its design and construction. As an engineer myself I took this picture mostly to recognize man's achievements.

This was taken back in 2003 when I was in Europe, I love this one because for me living in Adelaide, we have no snow, no mountains, and the only time I'm above the clouds is when I'm in a plane!

My god, that's amazing.
I've never been on a cruise, never really wanted to, but I think it's awe-inspiring how something that huge was made to float... It's amazing!

Nice! I'm home for the weekend right now and I'm glad I don't have a bunch of homework! Good luck getting quality time with her! At least you get the hug and the face time... Nice, isn't it?:)

Really nice job on the coloring!
Thanks. That plugin is great because one can easily whip out an effect and paint it on or erase it off selectively.
I used it to de-emphasize all that distracting background detail. The effect works in the photo, I think, because that's how our sight/perception works, focusing on what it considers important and kind of masking/blurring/dulling the rest.

Nice pic of the studying girlfriend. I remember the stress of university--loved it, loved learning!

What's inspiring to me is not only the engineering feat, but also the logistical challenge. It takes large teams of people not only to design every inch with all of the electrical, mechanical, environmental, residential, safety and luxury systems, but also to construct it. As an engineering manager I have 12 people and 3 other engineering groups to coordinate. Even this presents us with challenges every week so I am always in awe of the much more massive organizational structures that produce the ship, the shuttle, the commercial airplane, and so on. That itself is as much a testament to human ability as the final product.

It's one thing to have a dream. It's another to make it happen.

Alas I am too scientific in my thinking to listen to preacher babble. Five different people with five different (brainwashed) beliefs will assert five different truths. Can there be five different truths? Religion is a psychological placebo for the often harsh realities of life and death. Every culture has invented religion because every culture has had to cope with life and death. I've been to too many places and seen too many cultures to be so blindly ethnocentric as to even hint that any particular religious belief is the One True Truth.

Now where are those Golden Arches and Ronald McDonald? I've got a Big Mac attack. Speaking of BigMac, he's been posting some pretty good pictures here. :D

Taken at a local county show today. The terrier race always provides a good selection of facial expressions. The rain didn't seem to bother these front runners

Brilliant! Intense expressions, drama, action...and a narrow focus range as seen on the grass in the foreground.

Cool. Perhaps a bit of a crop around the edges and especially on the right might have heightened the drama?

Do people bet on the races? Any dope testing? :p
In Korea, some people eat dogs... :) Very healthy, they say.

The picture of the guy sleeping in Central Park, posted by "Dark" above, reminded me of this guy. Public sleepers are interesting subjects.

I think I used "Aetherize" Flaming Pear plugin to add the dreamy element. I know I played with the contrast a fair bit. I have a plain b&w of this, but--man!--that was too harsh.
