Went to one my local supermarkets (Albert Heijn). They carry quite a few Trappists. Not pictured is La Trappe since I've already had one before.
These are pricey so I better enjoy them at their best!

You might also be able to spot a weird bottle on the right. That's my city's brewer which in all honesty makes terrible beer! Only Belgian beers but they taste like they took water out of the nearby contaminated canal lol

EDIT: A few pics of them poured:

The Chimay is very dark!!
Both are ovet 9%

EDIT: Okay, so I drank all three now. Great beers, didn't know they were all nearly 10% until now! Time to take a long hike and walk off the alcohol :p
And few things are more enjoyable than a Belgian beer served in a proper (Belgian) beer chalice/glass/goblet.

When I first visited Belgium - as an undergrad - I was bowled over, awestruck, not by the variety - and quality - of the beer, but also by the exceedingly classy way it was served, in elegant glassware.

I'd love to own the proper glassware for each beer, sadly some are difficult to find. Luckily you'll always get the proper glass when you order a beer at a restaurant or café. If you don't, I wouldn't trust them!

Same holds true for Germany. You most likely would get the beer that corresponds with the logo on the glass, but the creativity in their design, shapes and whatnot, can't top the Belgians :)

True.

I don't have them all, but do have a fairly decent selection.

Agreed.

Oh, yes.

I recall my stupefied delight when I was first in Germany as an undergrad, and the elegant glassware for beer - even in the roughest of pubs - amazed me (and impressed me).

Certainly, at the time, we had nothing remotely like it, instead, choosing to serve beer in functional, and singularily inelegant, glassware.

Finally tried out Hertog Jan Grand Prestige. A dark, but not dark tasting 10% beer. It is the highest rated beer on Bierista.nl (my favourite, Tripel Karmeliet is no.2). So quite an accomplishment! And you know what, it's not even too expensive! €1,25 I paid for it.
This sounds amazing, and looks absolutely gorgeous.

Actually, I had to look it up, as I had never heard of it - a Dutch brewery?

Wonderful: Do enjoy.

We can't get those here. :( Just the regular extra stouts... which I love!

A shame.

Just jetted-back-home from Teh Mojave, and am enjoying some bog-standard x-stouts ;)

From an economic standpoint, it is telling--for me--that Guinness has decided to segment their market.

Speciation, from an evolutionary standpoint, serves-well its own best interests.

Market speciation makes me nervous....

The best selling beer in the Netherlands surprisingly. I always assumed it would be Heineken or Amstel but apparently Hertog Jan beats them. And for good reason too, their regular pilsener actually tastes good!
I feel you, Brother.

Did the hike help?
In the beginning it felt like it wouldn't but when I returned home I walked it all off :p

Perhaps.

However, this rather robust export version of Guinness has actually been around for decades; this is not a recent development even if it took me quite some time to encounter this delightful beverage.

I used to be able to procure a decent bopper of the FS, but I have only been able to find the x-S bopper @retail for over a decade.

For ex.:

A placid handful of nights at Anza-Borrego . . . next time, I will not bring alcohol ;)

wow

That last line gives me an ominous sense of foreboding... what would you bring... ?

Just the other stuff I brought . . . sardines, tuna, lots of water, instant coffee, tea, oranges, apples, crackers, (warning! backpacking heresy ahead: Del Taco carry-out bought before I left Civ (three Del Tacos, a cup of guac, and two orders of tortillas)), etc.

The Guinness was much-enjoyed, but it messed with my ocular tracking ability (which was very-much important during this week of Dark Sky/Milky Way/Perseid obv.).

Just another data-point for my next jaunt ;)

I went to the local drinks wholesaler and bought some Belgian beers that were unknown to me, the choice is overwhelming and you don't really know what to try, so next time I will take other brands with me.
Next time I will bring different ones and put on my preference list.

Wow, that's the old Achels design I see, I didn't know those were still in date haha! They have been rebranded to 'Achels Dubbel' instead of Bruin for whatever reason but it's a great beer

La Chouffe is always great but I hadn't heard of 'Mc Chouffe', I have to try that one out!

Trying out Gerardus Dubbel. Brewed for Lidl by Gulpener in the hills of the very south of the Netherlands. I've had their blond beer before and it was very weak, Aldi's Steenbrugge (brewed by Palm) is much better in that regard.
Gerardus does however make seasonal beers and those are right up my alley.

I still have some winterbeer that I'm saving for when it gets really good because the cinnamonny spices (juniperberry and also liquorice root) really warm ya up!

But first I'm waiting for autumn, when they sell "herfstbock", which this dubbel kind of tastes like.

It aint no Achels, but it's alright for supermarket beer! But a bit toooo sweet for my taste.

That is a terrific selection.

I am familiar with several, but, by no means, all of them.

Agreed.

Love that design.

McChouffe is terrific, if you like 'dubbel' style dark beers (and I do).

In fact, all of the Achouffe beers (and I love their labels) are excellent.
