After weeks of near constant overcast weather, this weekend has been amazing. Clear skies the whole day! So to celebrate, I of course went on a couple of hikes, but now is the time to crack open a bottle of Cuvee des Trolls and enjoy the 'spring' weather

Gorgeous picture - I love the glass (and yes, among my extensive collection of beer glassware from Belgium, I will readily admit that something similar rests in my cupboard); that is a Belgian beer I have yet to encounter - do enjoy.
A pint of Exeter Darkness stout (5.1% abv) at The Raven here in Bath.
Good end to a day after a nice longish walk to enjoy the sunshine.

Apologies for the poor pic, I should have snapped it before I started, but I was a bit thirsty! 🤣

That looks amazing, and is not a beer I have ever heard of, let alone laid eyes on.

I love a sturdy stout, a robust porter style drink; do enjoy.

How would you describe it - what beer style does it most resemble?

For my palate, Guinness (that is standard Guinness) is woefully under-powered, although I am quite partial to a glass of Murphy's, an agreeable stout style beer from Cork, in Ireland; moreover, I will admit that I am rather partial to some of their rather robust export varieties - such as Guinness Foreign Extra, Guinness Special Export, Guinness West Indies Porter.

Thrift store find :)
You can very easily find seemingly rare glassware in thrift stores in the Netherlands and they're always around €1!
That's how we've found a bunch of La Trappe glasses still in box for 75 cents haha

Before I knew it I had downed 3; at only 5.3% ABV its well on the lower scale of what I usually drink, but its soooooo good! Definitely something I am looking forward to enjoying dueing the dog days of summer

Enjoy.

In winter, those dark, dreary months when we are starved of sunshine and natural light, I find that my preference is for rich, dark, robust, and profoundly alcoholic, porters and stouts.

However, yes, I find myself in agreement with you: Summer does seem to call for the consumption of lagers, and good IPAs.

Moray IPA by Stadshaven (Rotterdam). An Aldi find and tastes pretty good but I'm no expert on IPAs. Thankfully they also had their Octopus Blonde and Piranha Tripel. All in cans. Last time they had them at Aldi they were in bottles, but I hadn't tried this one yet.

I like the text on the back

I went to a thrift store today with my dad and we found a couple of these really nice Erdinger Weizen glasses

The Patronus Weizen was nothing special (in fact, I think it might've gone bad)
However the real treat for me was finding this book:

A very extensive "Belgian beer guide" from 1986. It's interesting to read about which brewers have since been forgotten and which are older than you might think. Mind you, this was before the "specialty beer revolution" of the late 90s!

What a wonderful (and fascinating) find.

Happy reading.

I'm more impressed with the pint glasses...
Yes, to a certain extent, I am, also.

However, the glass on the extreme left would give me cause for concern; the business of cheerfully imbibing alcohol does not lend itself to being able to deal with a glass with such a seemingly precarious stem.

At least, not for me.

I prefer my glassware to come complete, or resplendent, with a sturdy stem, all the better to ensure that one cannot accidentally knock it over.

Actually, I have quite an extensive collection of different Belgian beer glasses, (St Bernardus, Trappistes Rochefort, Chimay, Westmalle, Delirium Tremens, and a charming glass from the Brasserie d'Achouffe brewery) along with a few from Innis & Gunn, which I use regularly.

Color me envious...

The 3rd & 5th ones are my faves...

Found a few nice glasses in a thrift store during the weekend, the perks of living near the Belgian border are that seemingly rare glassware is commonplace in thrift stores.
Now, this does make me envious, and impressed.

A terrific beer (one that I haven't seen in an absolute age) in a gorgeous (and wonderfully apt) glass.
This time St. Feuillien:

We were in Germany again near the Dutch border so I suggested we head to Lidl to sample some of their beers again.

Steam Brew Summer Ale. One they don't stock in the Netherlands (we have to make do with two IPAs, that's all)
And they only cost 89 eurocents per can!

A real refreshing beer.
