Found this French blonde abbey beer at Lidl. A 75cl bottle with a cork. Very nice presentation and it tastes good too. Nothing special but just.. good
I rarely go to Lidl but this has inspired me to investigate what beer they have on offer.View attachment 2459808

Be warned however, their selection changes depending on the country. This beer was found in a Dutch Lidl and I know for a fact they also sell this in France but who knows where else they sell it!I rarely go to Lidl but this has inspired me to investigate what beer they have on offer.

That looks delish!.. 'Blue Buck' -- a fine tasting brew from Philips Brewing & Malting in Victoria, BC -- in a festive holiday box, and currently at a special price "for 15" at the Gov't liquor stores here -- caught this box at a store near where I live in Burnaby, BC, and enjoyed this taste yesterday.

Orval really is two beers in one. Traditionally you would pour in the Orval like you would normally but then you don't pour in the yeast but leave it separate. You will get one clear Orval in a larger glass and another almost opaque in a shot glass.
Two totally different tastes! I sadly still don't own a real Orval glass (and they used to have plenty of them at the Achelse Kluis but not anymore!!) but this is still nice for a photoshoot![]()
Yup, it even is one of the first pictures you'd see on the Wikipedia page for OrvalSay what now?
That's a bummer. I guess they really cater to local tastes and preferences. You would not for example see any Belgian beers in a German Lidl but at the same time you would not see the countless variations on pils in BelgiumFollowing up on my trip to Lidl to investigate the beer selection. Very disappointing compared to what is on offer in the two major grocery store chains here. So as to not leave empty handed I purchased a Czech Budvar. Nothing special but I have not had one for many years.
With some of the rather robust beers (in other words, with some of the beers that are exceptionally strong and highly alcoholic), - in general, some of those beers that are in excess of 11% abv - my experience is that the strength of the alcohol can unbalance the beer, and have the effect of smothering some of the other - more subtle - flavours.Commonwealth Marvoloso V15, double barrel aged inperial stout with wild thai banana, peanuts, cacao nibs, and madagascar vanilla beans. 11.5% ABV. I get a lot of vanilla and cacao, but not much else. Overall a pleasant beverage, but would have liked a hit of banana

An absolutely fascinating piece - gripping stuff, in fact, and well worth reading.Last month I enjoyed this pint in the Princess Louise pub in London. It is a Samuel Smith owned establishment. For those interested in the story behind the pubs and the very strange business practices and rules in the Samuel Smith world, have a look at the article from today's Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/news/20...beer-baron-built-britains-strangest-pub-chain

Gorgeous; I love Trappist beers, and I must say that I absolutely adore the glass, as well.View attachment 2473468
