Now, the Pliny the Elder beer is on my 'dearly wish to taste' list; unfortunately, This Side Of The Pond, I have never so much as laid eyes on a single, solitary, bottle.

Enjoy. I know it to be a legendary beer, and would greatly welcome the opportunity to make its acquaintance.
it's even hard for me to get and I live here in California. So I am always happy to come across a place that has it on tap. I made sure to have two!

Ah, yes.

I know the feeling; if a scarcity of something treasured exists, why not help yourself to two when opportunity permits?

Anyway, enjoy your pair of Plinys.

This beer is on my 'Beer Bucket List'. (Now, that would make for a good thread title......and indeed, thread discussion...)

We do need a beer bucket list thread. Good idea.

why not both. two threads...?

It's seriously an amazing Quadrupel. 10% abv and absolutely perfect.

Agreed.

It is an excellent Quadrupel, perfect for this time of year, and is one of my favourite beers.

By the way, St Bernardus have just released their Christmas Ale - it is a very similar Quadrupel to the Abt 12, but with a slight, seasonal, twist.

Oh, and @Mattlike - if you like the St Bernardus Abt 12 (and you do, as I do), then, might I recommend that you keep an eye out for the Trappistes Rochefort range as well?

The Trappistes Rochefort 10 is the quadrupel in the Trappistes range, and it is every bit as good (if not even, perhaps, marginally better) than the St Bernardus Abt 12.

Currently have an 8 in the fridge that I plan on having this evening, haha! I also picked up another 750ml bottle of Duvel which is also one of my favorites.

The Trappistes Rochefort 8 is excellent; but - if you like a good quadrupel - the 10 is brilliant and well worth tracking down.

Enjoy your Trappistes Rochefort 8 - it is a first rate beer.

Duvel (the auto-spell-check insisted that I wanted to write "Duvet") is one of the first of those Belgian beers that I ever came across, and is an extremely good beer.

Belgian abbey beer (though currently owned by Carlesberg). Nice winter beer.
[doublepost=1479591052][/doublepost]Just going to add this is a special seasonal beer, a "Xmas beer". Seasonal beers are one of the great things I learnt about moving to Europe. A tradition that has been taken up by the finer craft breweries in North America.
