Bike direct? Nice bike

I encourage you to recheck all of the parts on this bike, making sure that everything is secure and tight. If you are riding this as a fixed gear, the cog has been reported to be slightly loose and the average person doesn't think twice. If you don't tighten it, and it continues to loosen, you run the risk of stripping your rear hubs threading. That usually means rebuilding your rear wheel.

Thanks for the tips. Actually took it home and took it apart, reassembled, and greased everything. I have not checked the hub (stupid on my part), but will do that this weekend, thanks again.

Yes, BikesDirect. Perfect for me right now and it is incredibly light. I think I need to get my front wheel trued though. A little bit of wobble.

Just FYI, my bike got stolen.

I had a Kryptonite mini U-lock attached, but I got lazy and only attached the top bar of the frame to a metal post. I normally used the "Sheldon Brown method", but I don't know how much it would have helped last night. If he broke through that lock to get my bike (out of 6 or 8 bikes parked in the same area), he probably really wanted my bike. :(

So I see your riding with no breaks. I am amazed at people who can do this, how do you stop though?

With a fixed gear bike, the pedal continuously move. You stop by resisting the motion of the pedals. When you have practiced, it becomes a lot easier, and stopping distances become smaller. I usually allow myself enough time to stop for most cases.

What kind of bike was this before the transformation? Looks great!

Thanks! Just a BikesDirect Gravity Swift 2 - http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/gravity/swift2_track.htm

Just changed the wheel set, saddle, handlebars, and removed the front brakes. The only thing I'm particularly interested in doing now is replacing the crankset, and there's no urgency at this point.

My only regret with the new wheel set is that it's noticeably heavier than the stock wheel set, I will likely upgrade to Velocity deep V's(as opposed to the current Weinmann DP18's) and some lightweight hubs in the future.

Damn, that's no good at all. :( It's the problem when we are riding some pretty exotic bikes.

Mine (a Trek Madone 4.5 2012, white/grey) is not exotic compared to some of the others that were nearby it, but it's still a lot of money to spend. When mine is delivered, I'll get some photos of it.

I would like to ride bikes but I am not in the greatest shape at the moment. Maybe when the summer hits, I will be ready.

Go for it. Cycling is brilliant from a fitness perspective. Actually, it's just brilliant anyway ;)

Thanks for the explaination..ha I look back at my question and am not like "what the hell was I thinking?" Yeah I started skidding a little, nothing crazy. ThickSlicks will be in order if I keep up with it.
