It doesn't.

However, my personal experience proves otherwise on the dealer point. For example, all Citroen dealers in São Paulo are owned by the same group (SHC), and they all suck. The same group even owns some other manufacturer's dealerships. It's not the dealership itself, it is who the auto maker chose to represent them. Though the other PSA (Citroen/Peugeot) dealers across the country, and even in other countries suffer the same customer service problem. That doesn't mean there are no good ones, though. When we had our Citroen C4, which was sold last month, for nearly 3 years we were always nicely recieved by the dealer, which never gave us any trouble.

Nevertheless, it is true that 99% of the times the problem resides with the representatives and not with the manufacturer itself.

I don't know the laws down in Brazil, but here in the US it is nearly impossible for the manufacture to cut their ties with a bad dealer. State laws heavily favor the dealer and the states are wrapped around the dealerships finger. For instance take the Chrysler and GM bankruptcies and them wanting to shed dealerships. Chrysler straight out used bankruptcy to immediately cut those dealers( which is perfectly legal under bankruptcy) from the franchise agreements. While GM was going to simply let their agreement with said dealers expire.

But, the dealerships complained and Congress passed a bill which required the manufactures to go into arbitration with said dealers. Since that bill was attached to another bigger bill, Obama signed it. It is freaking ridiculous how the laws are set up here. Why can't the manufactures open corporate dealerships? Almost every industry that comes to my mind( AT&T, Verizon, Apple, etc) are able to have corporate and third-party stores, so why can't Ford, GM, Toyota, etc have corporate dealers?

Another horrible practice dealers do is when vehicles are under warranty, they try to blame the manufacture as to why they won't warranty a broken part( since warranty work is not profitable for the dealer) when it is them trying to get the customer to pay for it.

The dealerships are independent from the manufactures. So if a service department at a dealer is crap, it only reflects on that dealer.

My dads E46 330xi has had a few issues when the mileage started getting high and currently with my brother at 150,000 miles and it has had several issues from what he had told me.

My dads current E90 335xi at 32,000 miles has been good so far.

BMW's are great vehicles to drive especially the 335xi with the Twin Turbo Inline 6 making 300 HP and 300 lb.-ft. of torque at just 1400 RPM. But yeah, when they break it is going to cost you money.

335i is a great car! A few of my friends have them and I almost got a new 335i sedan as my first car, but went for the Infiniti instead.

Looking at a 335iS coupe as a next car. Or a Lexus IS-F. (for college).

They are a blast to drive especially with that diesel like low end torque. :D

Are you paying for those cars with your own money? And why do you need a new car for college?

Too much talk, too many opinions for a pic thread. More pics needed.

Here is mine. Same pic as posted two iterations of this thread ago. 2000 Jeep Cherokee with reliable I-6 and NP242. Old car, but I can't bring myself to get rid of it. It just runs and runs, decent gas mileage. Thinking about an X5, RX350 or range rover, just depends on garage situation when we move again. Or just may keep it and add a coupe like a 3 series or A5. Just depends on parking situation if I can have 2 vehicles.

I'm in school pretty much full time. So they are gifts from my parents for doing well.

And my infiniti is on a lease because it was my first car and I knew I wouldn't want to keep it too long. - that's why Ill get a new car for college (either the first or second year).

For everyone with BMW's, care to confirm/deny?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acsz-l2RUb0

Absolutely not my experience at all. Personally, I find that the BMWs that myself and other family members have had (3, 5, and 7 series) to be a very reliable car. What that video doesn't tell you is how he took care of his car? Insert any car brand and if you do not maintain the vehicle it will give you problems. And there's the fact that yes, all car manufactures make lemons. He may have gotten a lemon, but if thats the case, many states (like CA) have specific lemon laws to benefit the consumer.

If you are thinking of a BMW I highly recommend them! You won't be disappointed :D

From my personal experience, out of the 3 SUV's you listed go for the Lexus. The other 2 will not even come close to the reliability you have with your Cherokee.

Blinded, that is a great Jeep! It must have been really difficult to have to sell it. I bet you will get another one the future - it is an addictive hobby.

My best mate has a 2007 FQ-360 running around 380bhp with a lot of weight reduction ( his wheels weight like 6kg each ) i love driving it, just the 4500miles servicing that sucks with Evos.

Good taste in wheels, but 6Kg each? Which size do they have?

I've got the OZ Ultraleggera on my ride (which look pretty similar) but they weigh 8Kg a piece in 8x18.

Yea its a FQ 300 but just had it dynod at 401 bhp :p

Congrats. Mine has been a daily driver since new so I've only very mildly tuned it. We didn't get the FQs so we were always somewhat jealous. The Audi has taken over daily duties so I'm contemplating what to do with the Evo. Don't think I'll ever sell it since I don't care for the X - if I want an Audi, I'll buy an Audi, not an X (see photo above).

We didn't get AYC/S-AYC here so we don't have the pump, lines, insane service interval, etc. IIRC, Mitsu claimed it was so they could give us a bigger fuel tank although I suspect it was so they wouldn't have to warranty the things when we failed to service them.

Mine - shortly after I got it:

RX350 may be the most reliable, but it is also the most boring CUV ever. Lexus( and other Toyota products) are the most boring vehicles ever and for people who hate driving.

I would go for the X5. It is the next best reliable CUV in that list and will the be the most fun to drive. Land Rovers are very problematic.
