Easy solution then.
Buy a vehicle( like the E92) that can fit a V8 in the engine bay. And then swap in the LS3. Didn't say it had to be a GM vehicle, just a Small Block V8.
You can actually buy such a thing.
Hartge (german BMW tuner) 150i. 5L V8, 450HP engine from the M5 series.
Just bought this, I'll be picking it up next weekend after I hand in my dissertation. I can't wait to have one again!
Mostly new photos, but added a few older ones for the sake of being comprehensive. Fun car, but there's a small chance I might be moving on soon so definitely not going to put another penny into this car.
Few from my latest shoot:

It's a 2009 135i 6-speed manual with a bunch of stuff.
You can buy one from the factory. It's called an M3. Long term maintenance is going to be the real deal on that car, but it sounds just like a Corvette from the driver's seat.
The M3 doesn't need any mods. It's an awesome car out of the box.Well yeah, but how well does the 4.0 V8 respond to mods? The Small Block is famous for cheap mods with big power gains.....
wow those old man emu lifts are expensive, I just checked them out $755 for a 1.5in, granted it does come with leaf springs, but I think i've seen them from rubicon express way less than that. Old man emu lifts must have higher quality parts.
That's a good idea, my mine doesn't have cruise control either. How was it to install?

I had a 2005 M3. I tracked the car and the only mods I ever made was to add stainless brake lines & fluid, and to use different pads between street and track. Otherwise it was bone stock. It didn't need anything more. Every report I've gotten from those I trust is that the E92 is even better.
That may be true, and I understand people want to do it, but for most it is money wasted other than for bragging rights. So is the Corvette and CTS-V, but I do not see people stop wanting to modify the beasts.
That's actually a V10 from the current M5 and the car is called the Hartge H50. Turner Motorsports did the swap. Turner showed the car at the 2007 Bimmerfest in Santa Barbara. The car is a beast.
Very cool. My wife and I love watching rally, especially WRC. Petter is one of our favorite drivers, and we're glad he has a competitive car again. Maybe he can get his hair cut this year....
My wife gave it to me for my 30th birthday November 2009...

That's a 3 series BMW though. I was talking about the 1 series.
BMW doesn't usually leave much on the table when it comes to engine tuning. If someone wants a lot more power, they'll have to go the forced induction route. It won't be cheap.
I know the N54 is mod friendly. People have it pumping out 400 HP.
Though a lot of people are complaining about the N55 not being mod friendly.
The ALMS race version of the engine produces 480 HP. The limited production M3 GTS (sold out and not for US market) will have 450 HP, but it also loses 400+ lbs of weight, so that's worth roughly 40 HP. It seems the V8 of the E92 M3 has more to offer in terms of tuning. The S54B32 engine of the E46 M3 was highly tuned out of the box, but you could still get decent improvements (30+ HP) with changes to intake (naturally aspirated) and exhaust, without going to forced induction.BMW doesn't usually leave much on the table when it comes to engine tuning. I never did it myself, so I can't support the claims. Just passing them on from some time ago.It looks like Rogue Engineering found 28 horsepower in an S54 bolting on track headers, exhaust, intake, and new software. Of course, all that stuff has to come off again when it comes time to pass smog testing (link). I'll need to see a dyno showing something over 305 before I'll believe the 30+ claim.

I was actually extremely happy with the balance of the car as is, so I never did anything to mine beyond the wheel wells.
Very nice Z4.I had a Z4MC (S54 powered), and it had more than enough power to suit me. Like most BMWs it was a momentum car. I stopped following tuning efforts on that car once I no longer owned one. A guy I knew from Phoenix put an ESS kit in his car and brought it close to 500HP. That was probably too much power for the car, in my opinion.
And since this is a picture thread...
My 330Ci is in the body shop getting the front end refurbished, courtesy of my insurance company (I can't believe they approved my rock chip claim). I also put new wheels and Eibach springs on it last month. I'll post a beauty shot or two once I get it back.
